"Hey Maya!" I heard a cheery voice call down the hall. I quickly scurried to my locker trying to keep my distance from the perky girl who had called me.

She  quickly rushed to me. "Maya, I've been calling you."  She then tilted her head. "Are you ignoring me?"

"Sorry Riley, just been day dreaming. That's all" I gave a smile and looked away. Obviously not believing me, she turned my head to face her and gasped. On the side of my eye was a huge black and blue. Pulling me into the girls bathroom, she quickly checked to make sure the stalls were empty before turning to me.

"Did he do it again?.." She asked, on the verge of tears. I never liked to see Riley cry so I decided to lie.

"No. I was just climbing a tree and I slipped and banged the side of my head real bad. Don't worry." I have a smile to reassure her that everything was fine. But the truth was, nothing in my life was fine.

Dan, my mothers new boyfriend, has been abusing me ever since he laid eyes on me. I was his little punching bag. When he was mad, I was the one to get hit, when he was sad, I was the one to get hit. Dan was a fucking drunk bastard that would sit on his ass all day long. I tried telling my mom but it was no use. At first she would never believe me but now she's just like him. She a junkie. I hate them both with all my guts.

The only reason I haven't died of all that abuse was because of my brother Josh.

(Authors note: I'm not talking about Josh as in Riley's uncle. This is my own made up character.)

Josh is 18. He's tall, lean and muscular. He had brown hair and hazel eyes. Almost every girl in my school wants to be with him. Although he was gental looking on the outside, he would kill anyone who hurt someone he cares about.

Signing, Riley looked up at the corner of the wall. "Well I'm glad that he hasn't hit you. I still think we should tell my da-"

"No!" I yelled. By her small jump back, I could tell she was clearly startled my sudden out burst. I couldn't tell anyone else about it. I just couldn't. "We can't Riley. I don't want anyone else to know. So can we just go to class already?"

Giving a small nod, Riley exited the bathroom. Looking one last time in the mirror, I shrugged and headed out.

"Mom..I'm home.." I muttered quietly not really caring if she knew I was home or not. When I came into the living room, I saw the worse sight in the world. My mother and Dan making out on my favorite spot on the couch. Disgusted, I headed to the front door.

I have 3 choices. Number one, slam the door to get them to stop and stay here. Number two, go to Riley's house for the night. Or three, just go out and figure out something to do till Josh comes home in a few hours.

My choice was clear. There was no way in hell I was going to say here. And I didn't feel like staying at Riley's house, so that only leaves one option. I go walk around and wait till 9:40 when Josh gets home.

I quietly went out and closed the door. Checking my watch, I signed. 3:40

Well it isn't that bad. Only 6 more hours to go. With that thought in my head I headed to the subway.

As I entered the train, I couldn't help but get a gut feeling that something was wrong. It was almost like something was watching me. I quickly sat in one of the seats in the train, my legs shaking with fear. Fear? Why would I be scared? And of what?

Buzz! Buzz! I jumped as I felt my phone vibrate. I looked and saw that my mom was calling me. Rolling my eyes, I picked up to answer it. "Yes mother?"

"Maya!" I threw my phone on the ground from how loud she yelled through the phone. I felt stupid and embarrassed as everyone quickly looked to what made the sudden crash noise. Giving a nervous giggle, I quickly grabbed the phone and started to talk.

"Maya!" She yelled again. I didn't know whether she was yelling out of anger or fear.

"Ok, ok. I'll be home in a couple of hours." I said obviously thinking this is why she is yelling at me.

"No! Don't come home!" As soon as she finishes her sentence, I heard glass break. Like the window. My heart started to beat faster.

"M-mom?," no answer "Mom!" Again no answer. I looked and saw that the doors of the train were about to close. I immediately tried to get through them but something grabbed me from behind and pulled me hard sending me flying to the ground.

Still on the ground, I looked up to see a man in all black, pointing a gun at my head. "Well today is your lucky day Hart. We're going to send you to heaven."
