Once Aria's laptop was in her hands, she hardly knew where to begin. Luke's gift was incredibly generous, and while she was so grateful for this kindness that he'd done her, she didn't even know what to do with a professional studio and forty hour's worth of recording time.
"Upgrade, huh?" she heard another familiar voice come from behind the glass; the door to the other side of the recording booth, and she smiled, looking up to see Kimmy, effervescent as ever, a glittering ring on her left hand. "Oh yeah," the blonde giggled brightly as she saw that Aria's eyes were drawn to the ring, "Isn't it so beautiful? I can hardly believe that this is my life, and that Michael and I..." she shook her head, as if shaking herself from a daydream.
"Believe me," Aria gestured at the studio that surrounded them dazedly, "I know the feeling." She tapped through her documents on her computer, desperately hoping that she would be happy with recording one of these songs that she had on this computer-- she had others, scattered across journals that she kept under her bed at home, but she wanted to at least recording something tonight. A fragment of something would even be satisfactory. She just needed something to prove to herself that this was real, and that it was happening for her.
"I know. A professional recording studio, with three of the most influential young musicians of our time producing your first EP..." Kimmy's mouth set itself into a wry grin, "You can't believe how happy I am for you, Ari."
A few more minutes were spent with the two having a genuine conversation for the first time since Kimmy and Michael first dropped the 'engagement' bomb on the rest of the group, and Aria couldn't have felt better. Kimmy helped a little with the selection process regarding Aria's dilemma, and Aria was finally set on one of her first songs; of course Kimmy would pick something old. Everything that was 'old news' to Aria in regards to her own music had already been played and sung for Kimmy millions of times over-- Aria was incapable of just accepting that she'd made something good until she had a second opinion. Possibly a third.
Once she got to recording, the whole thing flowed like magic from then on. The boys knew exactly what kind of sound she was going for, and Kimmy always gave her well-seasoned input; she knew Aria better than anyone on the planet, so of course she knew what kind of sound she liked for herself.
"Okay, so, question?" Luke asked when Aria finally pulled herself out of the booth, once she'd recorded a few bars of the song that Kimmy chose, "I get that you're a solo artist, and, forgive me if I'm wrong since I've never gone to any of your gigs, but, don't you have other band members?"
"Well," Aria murmured, "I just, you know, haven't had time these past few weeks... there are these people that are kind enough to play drums and bass for my gigs, but I wouldn't really consider them part of the band."
Luke nodded slowly, "So, who are they? I mean, it's getting pretty late, but since we agreed on adding a bit more depth to your sound, I just need to know. For tomorrow. It's either hire session musicians-- which I wouldn't mind, you know, paying for myself-- or getting your people in here."
Aria smiled, "I'll call them up tonight, see if they can spare some time. I'll let you know tomorrow morning," she sighed, the weight of the day finally finding it's way to her shoulders. It was finally sinking in that Luke, one of the most important people in her life now, was helping her make her dreams come true; while her inner monologue had been much the same the entire day, she just couldn't help herself. "I can't believe you did this for me," she smiled, reaching up toward his face and caressing his cheek with the side of her hand, eliciting a chuckle from him. Her voice dropped considerably, "Is there any way that I can even begin to repay you?"
