I woke up on the floor. Bethy was asleep and I felt lightheaded. You could see dried tear marks on her beautiful tanned face. She sleeps so quietly and peacefully. I almost didn't recognize her. I look around and notice the door is ajar. Light is seeping through the crack. It's him. He's here! I wonder what happened. How long has it been? What did he do? Why am I here? What does he want? These are all questions that I wonder. Why me? Why both of us? We don't deserve this. We have done nothing wrong. I need answers, and now!
I crawl around on my battered knees until I find the door. I hear him talking on the phone, his voice harsh and serious. I used the door to help myself up to my feet. I cracked open the door and listened intently.
"You got to hear me out bro. I got them. Finally! You have to help me hide them. Where do I go?" He whisper-shouts into the phone. "It's only been a couple hours, so no one suspects anything yet. I haven't checked the news, but I hope there's no missing report."
I can't believe I've been gone that long. How come no one's noticed? What will Mom think? And Janine! What would she think? Will she blame herself for missing the beach because she got grounded? What does he want? I need answers! Why would a stranger want to kidnap me and my friend? Is there some way to make money off of us?
"Alright José. I got to go. Bye!" He shuts his phone and glares at the door. I see him stare at me and I scurry into my "bed". Made of one scratchy blanket one the floor.
"I know you're awake Stevie. Don't hide from me."
I coward away and I pretend I don't see him. I just never want to see him again. How can he do this to us? I really miss my family. Even my annoying mom. I just can't stop thinking of what he will do to me. I need to plan an escape, and soon.
I pretend to sleep as he grabs Bethany. He grabs her by the neck and shakes her until she wakes. Her snoring stops abruptly and I fear she is hurt. She yelps in pain as he drags her out of the room. I hear her screaming and shouting my name in the hallway. I wonder what he is doing to her. That is when I start to bow my head and pray.
"Dear lord," I say out loud so he can hear me. If he hears me, he will stop hurting and abusing Bethy. "I pray that you will help heal me in my time of need. This man is hurting us both emotionally and physically Lord and I need your help."
I hear his loud boots on the hard wood floors. The closer he gets the more I pray, louder and louder. "Shut up!" He shouts at me, Bethy dangling from his hands. "Let her go, Lord, let her live and let this evil man go to hell. He doesn't deserve you Lord and-"
He drops Bethy. She staggers into the corner, her hands grasping the red marks on her neck. He grabs my arms and pulls me out of the room, with much difficulty. I won't let him kill me. I won't let him. I just won't. I stop and glare at him. "What are you lookin' at Steve?"
"It's Stevie! What do you want from us?!"
"I want you Baby. You're all mine, and your hot friend too!" He smirks and pulls me onto the bed. I sob.
"Please... No!"

Bethany's POV
I hear her shouts. This is the worst thing ever. It's all my fault. I have a feeling. And it's not good.
Stevie is thrown back in the dark room. She has bruises all along her arm.
"I know how to get out." She says.
"How?!"
"My phone. He took all of our stuff and hid it under his bed. I saw. When he's asleep, I could sneak in and grab it, and we can call 911. We can go home Bethy, we can go home." She trails off at the end, sobbing. I miss my family, Janine, little Jeff. He's so cute. Even though Stevie finds him annoying, I think he is lucky he knows nothing. How cold and ugly the real world is. How strangers can take you, hurt you. Anything can happen.

Stevie POV
The whole house is silent. I check the grandfather clock; 2 AM. It's been 12 hours, 35 minutes and 12 seconds... 13.... 14......
If I'm going to do it at all, it's now. I crack the door a little, enough to see the kitchen. I crawl on my bloody knees, wincing in pain. How could someone do this. Ive probably asked myself this a billion times.
I see him, an ugly beast, even in his sleep. I crawl in the room, as silent as a mouse. I feel although I'm on Mission Impossible. My heart is racing and adrenaline is pulsing through my veins.
"STOP" he shouts. I freeze. I'm caught. He going to kill me for sure this time. I'm dead.
"Hammer time!" He mumbles in his sleep, laughing. Thank god.
I lay flat on my stomach and slide under the bed. I find my phone, Bethy's phone, and my beach bag. I grab my phone and crawl out into our "room".
"I got it Bethy!" I whisper shout.
I press and hold the power button. Of course.
It's dead.
I sob myself back to sleep.

Mom POV
I can't sleep. I can't eat. I can't hope.
We called the police and filed a missing report. $1,000 reward. I just cant believe this. It must be a nightmare. Detective Roger Brown's phone rang. Please let it be her reaching out.
"Roger speaking........... Great! Bring them in, and I'll tell the family."
Everyone stares at Roger. He's been not much help to us, but its better than nothing.
"Oh right. Well we have one witness. They said they heard screaming coming from E. Beach Blvd. and ran to help. They only found a hair band left. We are going to run a DNA test to see if it belongs to either, and then we'll go from there. Meanwhile we will bring the witness and both families to the office. Be right back." He said, redialing his phone.
My life is over. There is barely any evidence, no ransoms, and no suspects. And no Stevie.

Janine POV
"Darling, come here. I need to tell you something." My mom said, eyes tearing. Sheesh. She's sooooooo over dramatic. I hope this isn't about my report card. (Mental note: call Stevie and yell at her. If she would answer her phone.)
"COOOMINNGGGG!" I shout down the stairs. Waste of my time.
"You may want to sit for this." She says, not daring to look at me in the eyes.
"What! I gotta go."
"Stevie and Bethany-"
"I don't wanna talk about them. I think they're purposely ignoring me because I didn't go to the beach with them." I roll my eyes and stand up. My mom grabs me and sits me back down, tears streaming down her face.
"They're missing, Janine. They disappeared at the beach. We think they may have gotten kidnapped. I'm so" (a quick sob from mom) "sorry"
I run upstairs and sit on my bed. I can't cry. This isn't real. I keep telling myself that, but I just can't seem to wake up. It should be me, not them. I lock my door and pick up my photo album. So many memories. I pick up my phone and dial Stevie. No answer. I cry myself to sleep.
