*Profanity used, you've been warned!*
As I'm taking notes in class, I feel a twinge in my back. I adjust, trying to make the feeling go away. Slowly the twinge turns to a slight pain, and the slight pain becomes unbearable. I clutch my pencil, turning my knuckles white, and grind my teeth together. I focus on my breathing, trying to calm myself down. It doesn't work, my breathing is shallow and choppy. The pain keeps getting worse and worse, until it all goes black.
I slowly drift back into consciousness, not wanting to open my eyes to the judging stares. I lay there for a minute, and after deciding no one is around, I slowly open my eyes. Wincing from a slight headache forming, I sit up and take in my surrounds. I'm in a corner, with three beds in a line next to mine. Realizing its the nurses office, I try to bring myself up. I'm stopped by a small but friendly voice. "Celia I wouldn't move so much, you hit your head pretty hard when you fell. I tried to contact your mother, but she didn't answer and her work number isn't listed. Is there anyone else I can call to pick you up so you can rest?" I look at the petite and pretty brunette nurse and try to give her my kindest smile. "I'm sorry for worrying you, but I'm feeling fit enough to head to class, if that's okay?"
The last thing I need is to miss my first day.
The nurses mouth thins into a grim line, but she nods. I force myself up, grunting at the soreness in my shoulders. The nurse looks at me one last time with concern, then walks into another room with me right behind her. She hands me my stuff and a yellow nurse pass to get into class. I thank her and glance at the clock. I sigh and hang my head a bit, seeing I've missed two classes and am only five minutes till lunch. I walk into the hallway and make my way to the cafeteria, deciding not to waste my time with the back and forth walk to the class then lunch.
I grab my lunch tray and head out into the quad to eat on the steps and work in my sketch book. Just as I finish my pizza, I hear someone call my name. I glance up and see a very worried Terra come speed walking towards me. I wave as she gets near and she walks faster. Right when she gets in front of me, she drops to her knees. She cups my face with both hands, turning it this way and that, inspecting for any sign of injury. I smile at her as she settles, slightly satisfied. "I'm okay Terra, I promise." She looks at me and shakes her head, with a frown. "You could be bleeding out your ass and still say everything is peachy." I double over from laughter at her description as she smirks at my curled figure. "As much as I love your vivid imagery, I really am fine." I stand as I say this and do a mock superhero pose to prove my point, earning a chuckle from her. She straightens out and gives me a hug. "Okay Celia, I believe you. I'm going to go now then, okay? See you after school!" I nod and she bounces off to be the natural social butterfly she is while I sit and finish my drawing.
