Chapter 1 ~ "You are beautiful."
*beep beep*
I groaned at the sound of my alarm clock. I sighed involuntarily into my pillow as I reached my arm out and hit the off button.
Ever since my mom made it big in the fashion and film industry we move like every year. I guess, you can say that I have gotten used to it but it does suck. I mean, I'm always leaving friends behind and I have already vowed to never have a boyfriend in high school because I don't want to be in a long distance relationship every again. Tried that once, never doing it again. Ever.
I shoved my face further into my pillow as my thoughts ran deeper.
"You better not be thinking about going back to sleep! Because we both know you won't wake up." My mom said bursting through the door. I turned around onto my back with the pillow still pressed to my face.
"Please, don't make me go." I spoke into the pillow. I heard my mother sigh. "Please, Mom. What if they don't like me?" I finally removed the pillow looking directly at the ceiling.
My mom scoffed. "Riley, when has any one ever hated you?"
I looked at my mother with a confused expression. "Skye Woods in the third grade when I won the Spelling Bee, Lonnie Sipes in the sixth grade when I refused to date him, Sheri Specks in the sixth grade when Lonnie wouldn't pay attention to her like he did to me, Justin-"
"OK, I get it. Anyways, you need to be out of here in less than two hours and we both know you'll use that time up quickly, so get up!" She half shouted-half spoke and ripped the covers off of me. I groaned internally as I moped out of bed and into my bathroom.
I looked over myself in my full body mirror. My hair was dark brown and wavy. It was about 2 or 3 inches from my butt, I loved it. I decided to leave it normal, it looks gorgeous either way. I was blessed with my moms flawless hair, thank God! I decided to keep my make-up light as well, for the natural-angelic type of look. I wore white skinny jeans with black vans, and a pale pink forever 21 shirt with buttons on the front, no sleeves, and lace around my shoulders. I smiled at myself, and stuck a sticky note unto my mirror that said "You are beautiful," before I walked out the door.
"I'm leaving, Mom!" I yelled as I ran down the stairs and to the front door. I heard her shout goodbye before I shut the door. I sighed once more as I unlocked my Bentley Convertible, (yes, I'm rich and very spoiled.) I turned on the GPS to help me get to school, still not knowing where exactly I was going.
After, about a half hour I finally got to Seasill High School and I was late. I missed orientation as well so I didn't have a schedule or any idea of where I was going. I walked inside the huge building trying to find the office or someone who could give me directions. I heard a locker close behind me, I turned around to see a boy behind me walking in the opposite direction.
I hurried to catch up to him, once I was right behind him I spoke. "Excuse me." He didn't turn around. "I was wondering if you could tell me where the office is?" Still nothing. I grunted under my breath as I pulled him to a stop. "Are you gonna say something or continue to ignore me?" I seethed.
"Um, what?" The boy suddenly pulled out his headphones. Well, gee isn't that a great first impression, I thought to myself.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know- I thought you- Never mind." I blushed looking away from his dark green eyes.
"You thought I was ignoring you?" I nodded still not bothering to look up. He did the weirdest thing then. He laughed. My head shot up so I could shoot him a glare. "You don't have to be embarrassed, you know? It's an honest mistake."
"I'm not embarrassed." I crossed my arms stubbornly.
"Really? Cuz the slight redness to your cheeks tells me otherwise." My blush deepened causing him to chuckle again. "Well what did you want?"
"Could you show me to the office?" I bit my lip expecting him to say no, but he nodded instead. He motioned me for me to follow him, which I took as my cue to check him out. He was wearing a tank top with khakis and blue vans to match his tank top. His arms were toned and muscular just like the rest of his body seemed to be. He definitely played a sport. Basketball? No, too big. Tennis? Absolutely not. Football? It's probably that one, so I decided to ask to make sure I was right. "You play football, right?"
He looked down at me questioningly, "Yeah, I do. How'd you know that?"
His eyes were the prettiest things I've seen in the past week. I didn't know eyes could be so... Green. His lips were full and red like he'd been chewing on them. They somehow looked perfect. I wanted to trace them with my finger tips but that would be strange. I shrugged, not really knowing how to answer. "Lucky guess." I looked away from his angel eyes.
"Um, okay. Well, my names Noah. Noah Karter. Yours?" He asked bumping his shoulder with mine.
"Riley Petersons." I smiled up at him once we reached the office. "Thanks for showing me the way. I think I can take it from here."
"Do you even know any of your classes?" He asked with a smirk. Aaaand, there goes my innocence. How can someone be so incredibly attractive. When I didn't answer he took that as a no and opened the door for me with a smile. Oh Lord have mercy, the man has dimples. I shook off my thoughts as I walked up to the front desk.
"Hello," I stopped peeking at the name on her desk, "Mrs. Westrick. My name is Riley Petersons, I'm new. I was wondering if you had my schedule for the year?"
"Hi, Sweetie!" She said perkily. "Yes, I'll go get it for ya in a minute." She turned to answer the phone. "Hello, this is Seasill High School, what can I do for ya?" She looked over at Noah and me and smiled before answering the person on the phone.
"Is she always like this?" I turned to Noah with a hopeful expression. I could use some happiness in my life, a lot of it.
"Unfortunately." He shook his head annoyed.
I smiled looking back at my new school's secretary. "I think she's cute." After a few minutes, she finally ended the phone call. She told me she'd be a minute before walking into another room.
Another few short minutes later she came back with a folder. She shuffled through papers before praising herself. "Ah, here they are! I knew I put 'em somewhere safe. Here you go, sweetheart. Do you need help finding your classes?"
I opened my mouth to speak but Noah beat me to it. "I'm gonna help her, Mrs. Westrick." He smiled gleefully.
"That's wonderful, Noah. Thank you!"
I looked down at my schedule as I walked out of the office, "What is Service Learning?" I asked baffled, I don't remember signing up for that class. "I have it first period."
"You have first period with me, then!" He smirked down at me. "Lucky you!" When he saw the frown on my face he chuckled, "It's really not that bad, I promise."
