The Madness In Me

"Just one spark, is all it takes."

I turned my head to see my boyfriend of three years scrolling through posts on Twitter. "Hey, babe, what's up?"

"I tried so hard, but it all goes up in flames."

He glanced up at me. "Can you shut up? I'm busy." I bit my lip and nodded as he sat back and continued what he was doing.

"This is not the way that I thought I would turn out to be,
tried to get but all that I got, was more insanity."

I grabbed my coat and slung it on, glancing at the lazy man I was dating. "Hey, I'm heading out." No response.

"Broken, everything that I touch has gone against me,
I can't get away.."

I walked to the park where my boyfriend and I first met. Memories came flooding back, ones that I didn't want right now.

"Just one chance, is all it takes."

"You're finally back! Where were you?" I heard my boyfriend ask. I turned to give him an answer.

"Can't change the past, but I can fight to change today."

There was broken glass everywhere, and the sounds of screaming. He was cheating on me again. There was a loud slap. He hit me.

"Broken, everything that I touch has gone against me,
got to get away."

I ran as far as I could, sobbing as I reached our park. He hit me. He actually hit me. Why did he do that?!

"Just one spark, is all it takes.."

Suddenly, arms wrapped around me. It was my boyfriend. "I'm so sorry.. I don't know what I was thinking. I shouldn't've hit you, or cheated on you. I'll never do it again, I promise!" I smiled and kissed him, knowing fully that he'd be back in his old habits by the next week. What can I say, it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. I loved him nonetheless.

"This is the Madness in Me."
