Act I: Buzzed

(It’s is 11:00pm on a warm spring evening. ELAINE , ROB, ALISON, FAYE and TONY enter a coffee shop. They look around for seats and notice a small grouping of 6 chairs close to a large group of guys. They walk over and take up 2 tables; ALISON and TONY at one and the rest at a table of four.)

ELAINE

Well we have seats, but what about the rest of our group?

FAYE

I’m sure some will open up soon enough; they can’t spend all night here

TONY

Here they come now.

(KATE, IRINA and ANNA walk into the coffee shop giggling to each other. They walk towards the group but head towards the group of boys.)

ALISON

Umm...why are they talking to those boys?

ROB

I guess they know them. Small world.

ELAINE

Okay, but where’s Ryan; he didn’t walk in with them. Hey Kate

(KATE continues to speak with the boys. ELAINE  is visibly annoyed)

ELAINE

Kate!

(FAYE, ELAINE  and ROB start chanting Kate’s name. After a few chants she turns around.)

KATE

Yeah?

ALISON

 What happened to Ryan?

KATE

He’s bringing Jane home, we figured it would be easier for him to drop us off here first since it was closer.

ELAINE

 Okay, cool. I’m getting food.

TONY

Right behind you.

ROB

 Guess I’ll stay here.

ALISON

Yeah, I’m so not hungry right now.

FAYE

Isn’t it strange how we always end up somewhere with food. Like, isn’t there something more interesting we could be doing?

ROB

We went to watch fireworks, there was no food involved there.

FAYE

But then everybody ended up in the freaking fast food joint after.

ROB

 No one got anything.

FAYE

You’re missing my point, we always end up somewhere with food no matter what. There must be something interesting to do that doesn’t involve stuffing our faces.
