Chapter 16:

As Dai entered his cave, a man hiding behind the side wall of the cave tried to stab him with a sharp kunai. Dai was unprepared for a fight so early, and didn't have time to dodge. He would have been struck by the fatal blow, but at the same time the ambusher swung, another man stabbed him from behind. This gave Dai time to attack, and Dai immediately swung his sword at the man who saved him from the first attacker. There would be no mercy here. As Dai's sword cleanly sliced the man's head off, 3 tally marks appeared on Dai's wrist, as lines of blood. Dai hadn't been expecting this, but he figured that one tally is one kill. So what were the other tallies for? As he walked over the dead man's body, he noticed to tally marks fading away. From this Dai discovered a new rule: you get the kills of whoever you kill. This made Dai reevaluate his strategy of killing whoever he met. Instead, he would head for the strongest on the floor, whoever had seventeen or eighteen kills. Dai rushed towards a glowing neon sign in the center of the room that said,"those with at least 20 kills come here." As he rushed towards the sign, he cut 5 people down, as soon as they tried to stop him. Well, that makes 8, Dai thought. When Dai reached the neon sign, a large, bulky man, with many scars-most likely from previous fights-awaited him. When Dai glanced at the man's wrist, he observed the man's impressive 18 kills. The man didn't waste any time on pleasantries, but instead charged straight at Dai. He attempted a punch, which Dai dodged, but the man was already swinging a knife in his left hand. Dai jumped over the powerful swing of the sharpened blade, and then swung his sword at the man's throat, hoping to end it with one strike. The man pulled his right hand up, while tossing the blade from one hand to another with extreme precision. He blocked the attack, and they both leapt back.

What do I do now? I can't beat this guy. Dai thought, but didn't have anymore time before the bulky man charged him again. Dai runs away, just to find that the bulky man was also much faster than him. Dai turned around and smacked the man right in the stomach. The attack landed, but had no effect. The man looked down at Dai, laughed, and brings a downward chop of his hand, aimed at Dai's skull. I can't die here. I have to get to the top Dai thought. The attack would have killed Dai, but suddenly, a blue shield appeared over Dai's head.

"What?" Dai said to himself. Maybe it has something to do with my origins. Lord Yanagi said he couldn't tell what I was. This could be my power! Dai thought, forgetting his place at the moment. The shield protected him from the relentless and frustrated blows the other man is attempting. This gave Dai the opening to attack, and he didn't waste a second. He decapitated the strong man with a swift strike to the temple, and Orokan'zao's sword did the rest. Dai's arm suddenly had a phrase written on it that read Passed, progress to sign. Dai proceeded to the second floor in an elevator under the sign.
