Sometimes I say to myself that all of this is for nothing. I won’t travel the world. I won’t learn different languages. I’ll never be noticed or be as famous as I would want to be. I’ll be a karaoke bar singer for the rest of my life.
“Mimzy, I think it’s time for you to go home.” Said my best friend, Luca, who also happens to be the owner of this bar I’m currently employed at.
“This is my home. You know that. Can’t I help you clean up or something? I don’t want to go home yet.” I said as I placed my cup of cold tea on the coffee table in front of me.
Luca moved forward and came to sit next to me on the couch. He put an arm around my shoulder and leaned in to kiss my head. “I know. You know it kills me to tell you that you have to go home. I’ll walk you to your apartment tonight.”
I nodded my head because if I were to open my mouth I’d probably whine and complain in disagreement. I told Luca to wait for me by the front door while I’d go and get my jacket and purse from my locker in the employee’s room in the back. I put my code into the lock and opened my locker. I took my coat and purse and paused to look at the poster on the inside of my locker door. It’s a photo of my favorite kpop group member, T.O.P, from Big Bang. If I only could meet him in person, I thought to myself. I air kissed his face on the poster and shut my locker door quickly.
Once I got to the front of the bar, I saw Luca standing there looking over the text messages he received during his work shift. He picked his head up and locked his phone when he heard me coming. He opened the front door motioning me to walk ahead. I nodded a polite thank you and waited for him to come by my side to walk with me. He took out his phone again and looked at his planner for tomorrow’s party reservations. “Tomorrow we have a party reservation of 8 people at 6:30 at night to 9:30. Supposedly it’s someone really exclusive coming so the whole karaoke bar is closed to other people when that party is here. You believe we have to put up with losing business like that! We’ll see who it is then.” Luca said quickly while we were walking.
The walk was quite after that so I decided to break the silence. “Do you think there’s such a thing as true love?”
Luca and I slowed down a bit as he said his answer.
“I believe there is such a thing as true love. Rare, but it exists. Why the sudden question?” He said in such a passionate voice.
“Sometimes I think I’m not worth other peoples’ time. I sometimes don’t even go to goukons because I get scared guys will think I’m ugly or boring.” I said as we continued to walk.
“Don’t say that. Sometimes everyone feels that way about themselves. It’s not true though. Sometimes people need little pushes of confidence to have the guts to say they’re awesome to do something out of their comfort zone. Remember Luna, she didn’t have the guts to ask me out when I knew she liked me. I told her she was pretty and she had the confidence later to ask me out. Now we are together as a couple. Now that’s got to speak for itself, right?” He said, smiling.
“I guess you’re right.” I said smiling. The rest of the way home was quite.
“Believe what I said before. It’s true.” Said Luca. Five minutes later we reached my apartment building.
I nodded and hugged him goodnight. His last words to me were odd, but they were the truth since I had thought the same earlier on in the day.
“I believe you’re just lonely.” He said once I turned around to walk to my apartment. I paused and turned around to stare at him.
I turned back around and continued to walk. Once I got upstairs, I opened my door, went inside and locked it again. I was still processing everything he had said to me still, so I walked to my bedroom and just changed into my pajamas and went straight into my bed. I looked at the ceiling and said out loud what I was refusing to agree with until now.
“I’m lonely.”
Please tell me what you guys think in the comment section.
