This short story is based off of an RP that I had with Oh_my_oswald. The story occurs just after Clara and the 12th Doctor are in the cafe in "Death in Heaven".

It is a perfect afternoon and two friends are sitting in a cafe talking. There is a tall man dressed in a subdued black suit watching them intently over his paper. More precisely he is watching the short brown haired girl and her expressions. He already knows the conversation because it was one of the saddest days in his long life. He watches as the man looks at the woman's wrist and points.

'I see you have news for me,' looking at her intricate bracelet with what appears to be scorch marks. She was so caught up in her thoughts she didn't really understand what he was saying. 'Good 'ole P.E. figured it out! He will make a maths teacher yet,' the grey haired man exclaimed.

The man dropped his newspaper lower to get a closer look. He really didn't remember this part because he had been too busy talking assuming what her next words were going to be.

'Listen, Doctor. There's, there's something that I have to tell you and, er, it's not good news so just, just listen, okay!' Even from his seat he could see the pain in her big brown eyes. Yet, from two feet away he couldn't see them that day.

'I know what you're going to say Clara! You and Danny are together now. That's great. That's how it should be. But, the old man and the blue box, that's never going to fit in. So no more flying around. No more lying,' the Doctor had said. No more lying the man in black thought to himself and a solitary tear escaped from his eye rolling down his cheek. He watched for the next few moments as two best friends told each other lie after lie and it broke his hearts. As the two friends stood up the man in black quickly put his newspaper in front of his face disguising himself. This next part was a revelation to him as the two friends awkwardly hugged. Clara was facing him and he saw the pain in her expression as the Doctor said "Never trust a hug. It's just a way to hide your face,' and he was right on the money because tears were forming in Clara's eyes. Why didn't I feel her sadness that day the man in black thought while pulling at the collar of his shirt.

As the two friends stand outside of a blue police box, the man in the black suit sneaks around the corner still watching them. Thank you for making me feel special she had said. He remembered that line so well. Because, in his mind, he didn't make her feel special. He lied, berated, and worse of all never listened to what she had to say. Now, it was his chance to make this right. He had to because this is where it started to go all wrong. This was the start to mistake after mistake that took him into the darkness. A darkness that he doubted he would ever return from. But, I have to try he thought to himself. When the blue box disappeared he intently watched Clara as she wandered aimlessly through the park until finally finding a bench. The man in black walked up quietly behind Clara as she sobbed on the bench completely caught up in the previous conversation and events of the past two weeks. She probably wouldn't have noticed an alien invasion much less someone walking up behind her. The man knelt behind the bench level with her ear and simply whispered 'My Clara.'
