Chapter Five: The Hunt

Sophie!!! I heard Joshua, another one of my pack members, yell through the pack bond making everyone flinch. I let out a growl to tell him to shut up and stop giving us all a headache. He just laughed and bounded through the trees across from where I was laying. He bowed his tan head respectively and kept his eyes on the ground.

Joshua how nice of you to join us. I said softly through the bond and he raised his head and trotted over happily. He plopped down on the grass in his usual spot and looked at me with his big blue eyes.

I’m not going to say anything. He said and I realized he was talking about the mark that was peeking out from where I was trying to hide it by putting my other paw on top of it. I nodded to tell him he was right in not saying anything and he barked happily. I held in my laugh but my attention was quickly transferred when Mike let out a low protective growl. I glanced over to him and saw that Jessica had just walked into the clearing but she had not kept her head down. She quickly dropped her gaze and locked her eyes on the ground.

I suggest you apologies. Mike growled and Jessica’s eyes flashed with anger. That is when she made the mistake. She growled at me. I was on my feet in an instant with my hackles raised as I stepped in-between her and Mike. She had always liked Mike, but they had tried dating once and he didn’t feel the same. I mentally flinched at the image of the two of them together but I had to brush it off. Jessica lunged at me but she never got her paws off of the ground. Nina was already on top of her with her jaws locked around her neck. Jessica yelped with surprise.

Are you going to let this outsider kill me Alpha Sophie? Jessica whimpered and I motioned for Nina to let go.

She is not an outsider Jessica. But if I were you I would be very careful what you do when she lets go. I said and Nina dropped her. Jessica immediately rolled over to show her belly as a sign of submission and Mike relaxed a little bit.

Please forgive me Alpha, I didn’t think! I just saw the mark and I didn’t want you to have Mike. I love him Alpha. Jessica pleaded with me but I simply let out a string of growls that made it clear that she was not to say that again.

Three days in the hole Jessica. I snapped and she flinched. Joshua, who had been standing in-between us to make sure Jessica had not gotten close to me, shook out his fur and walked over to Jessica. He grabbed her by the scruff of the neck and dragged her over to the corner where we had a cement cellar. We usually kept the kids there when we got attacked or when they first shifted but everyone knew that it was also used as I punishment from time to time. She struggled but at a growl from Joshua she shut up. I hated doing this to my pack members but she had threatened me so I could not let her get away with it. Joshua tossed her in and locked it, only Mike or I could unlock it because we were the only ones who knew the password. I was vaguely aware that the other fifty-seven family representative members of the pack had shown up and were standing in a protective form around me but I didn’t care. All I cared about was the fact that I felt like I was going to be sick. I pushed that thought to the back of my mind and looked up at Mike who was staring at me with a worried look in his eyes.

Well now I see why we couldn’t find either of you last night Alpha. Miranda, a white wolf with green eyes teased and I laughed lightly.

Yes everyone it seems Mike and I are the first soul mates in quite some time. I expect everyone to behave the same and at the first sign that anyone has lost faith in me as an Alpha and they have not challenged me I swear that I will kill them. Is that clear? I said glancing at everyone and they all answered in chorus.

Oh and this is Nina, our newest member. She is Mikes little sister and I expect people to treat her with respect. Now then is there any new business? I asked and Gabriel stepped forward from our now perfect circle.

Alpha Sophie my house was attacked. It seems the surrounding packs have become even more aggressive. They have taken Maria. He said with tears in his eyes and my eyes grew wide.

It is Kayne’s pack. I would like the following wolves to fallow me on a hunting party. We are going to go get Maria back. The others I would like to put the children and the elders in the back up cellar in my house and they need to protect the house; Gabriel, Mike, Joshua, Nina, Miranda, Abigail, William, Jacqueline, Annabelle, Tyler, Joseph, and Breanne. The others stay and do what I told you. Let’s head out. I growled and I got a surprised look from Nina that I was including her. I didn’t want to have more than thirteen wolves because I did not want to leave the pack defenseless. I was taking thirteen of the twenty best fighters if you include me and that seemed like a lot but I knew we would need all of us. We were going in to kill.
