I sat in my lonely prison cell, cold and lacking human contact. Guards eyed me every once in a while, as well as police officers and detectives walking towards interrogation rooms.

The only one I never saw was the old warden, who stayed locked up in his office. According to the other prisoners, he was mentally unstable.

Why did you have to end up in prison, Jellal? You could've just ran, but you didn't remember anything.

Those weren't wrong. When I woke up, some gang had managed to get a hold of me in my comatose state.

Then I found myself here, woken up by a young medic. Wished I was in a coma then.

Ah, what I would take to be in a coma right now. It would be so much less painful than prison.

Metal everywhere, cement, stone, cold.
A regular ol' prison.

I can't quite remember what got me here, but according to everybody who tells me, I'm here on treason.

After I got out of my own thoughts due to the yelling of the men in the cell next to mine, I decided to listen to them...

"Will you shut up," the one man began. "I can't hear myself think!!"

"Like you ever think, Flame Brain!" The other one said.

"I always think, Popsicle!"

"Your brain is so burned that you can't, Tabasco Sauce."

"You wanna go Ice Princess?!"

"Oh yeah, I-"

"Will you two just be quiet?!" Levy McGarden, one of the guards, yelled.

Natsu and Gray shut up immediately and went back to sitting down mundanely in their cell, just like the rest of us sick bastards.

"Argh," Natsu said, clearly wanting to pick a fight with her.

"A nurse will be coming by to make sure you idiots haven't injured yourselves in the past year and a half."

Since the wardens usually quit after six months or so, they ask a nurse to be sure it wasn't because we gave them an infection.

Levy mumbled an unintelligible grumbling into her walkie-talkie.
Although her grumbling lasted a few minutes, I spaced out until I completely forgot where I was. I liked it when that happened; the calmness of the moment made it almost pure perfection.

The world in front of me was a meadow: bright, peaceful, happy, dandelion seeds flying through the air.

Then I saw true beauty. A girl who wasn't much younger than me, with scarlet hair and big brown eyes. She was just-

"The warden for you cretins in cell block B will be here in one week." My thoughts were cut off by a nurse yelling. "Quit spacing out Fernandes! Anyway, the medical checkups begin tomorrow morning after breakfast, so ciao."

I guess I missed dinner during my daydreaming, and as hungry as I was, sleep came quickly.

I stood in the dressing room of Rougette looking for an outfit that would qualify as a warden's uniform. Yes, as of Sunday I would be a men's prison warden. Thoughts were buzzing through my head in a flurry of nerves and unsureness. I stepped out to find my friend Milly sitting where she was five minutes ago.

"Erzie, why did you have to take a job as a warden after university?" She began, "You could've gone to vet school with me," she continued, turning around in the mirror, checking out her outfit.

I looked in the mirror and replied, "As much as I like animals, I don't think I'd want to stick my hand up the ass of one."

Walking back into the dressing rooms, the conversation continued, "You don't have to do anything like that. Medicine, and shots...mostly." She sighed.

"Milliana, I don't want to hurt them."
I slid the dress over my curves, attempting to get it off.

"Yet," she paused. "You'd be willing to hurt humans."

"At least it wouldn't hurt my guilty conscience..." I sighed, putting my clothes back on. I couldn't find a uniform-like outfit, so I just left.

At least I still had a few days.
