Friendship Never Dies

Yamada Ryosuke gazed at the window as he watched his best friend, Yuri Chinen who's busy playing soccer. Yamada's right leg was amputated due to a car accident.

"Yama-chan!!", Yuri shouted cheerfully as he looked up on him.

"Chii!!", Yamada waved his arms and smiled back at him.

Yamada's just sitting inside the classroom waiting for the bell to ring. He's waiting for the right moment to tell everything to his best friend, Yuri..

When the bell for the dismissal ring..

"Let me help you..", Yuri said as he helps Yamada get up.

"I have something to tell you..", Yamada said in a low voice.

"What is it?", Yuri asked.

"I'm leaving tomorrow..", Yamada answered.

"But why??", Yuri asked in a sad tone.

"I'm going to New York.. They will be giving me an artificial leg!", Yamada said as he tries to cheer up Yuri.

"When are you going to come back?", Yuri asked sadly.

"Next year, I guess??", Yamada answered.

The two just keep silent as they try to stop themselves from crying..

"I don't want to loose my best friend!! I don't want to loose you!", Yuri shouted as he runs out of the classroom.

"Chii!!!", Yamada shouted and tears started to fall from his eyes.

Before Yamada leaves Japan, he's expecting for someone to come. But Yuri did not show off or even bade to him goodbye..Yamada's heart is broken because it's painful for him to leave his only best friend for more than half of his life..

But Yamada still continued to go to New York. There, he undergoes therapy and was finally given the chance to walk normally again..He even started to play soccer with the other boys but still, he cannot forget that his best friend was his best playmate ever..

Even he was in New York, he still managed to send messages to his best friend, Yuri. But Yuri didn't reply anything at all. Yamada thought that maybe he's still angry at him...

One year have passed, Yamada's heart is filled with joy. He's so excited to see his one and only best friend, Yuri..

When he already arrived at Japan he immediately headed Yuri's residence..

"Ohayou Gozaimasu! Eh-- Where is Chii?? Can I talk to him??", Yamada asked to Yuri's mother.

But she just looked at him and hugged him tightly..

"What's wrong auntie??", Yamada asked.

"Yuri's gone..", she said with teary eyes.

"Gone??..", Yamada asked, who's still confused on what's happening.

"He passed away as he tried to chase you on your flight in New York..", she answered as she broke down in tears.

"What??..", Yamada's shocked as his tears began to fall.

"Come inside.. I'll show you something", she said to Yamada as she wiped away her tears.

They headed to Yuri's room..

Yamada was surprised to see that all their photos together were post all over Yuri's room. Even before their photos wherein Yamada's accident did not happened yet. Their photos playing soccer together..

Yuri's mother handed a pair of white and red shoes to Yamada..

"He chased you because he wanted to give that to you.", she said as she smiled to Yamada.

Yamada's tears started to fall as he hugs the shoes tightly.

"It was raining during that time.. Yuri run fast, he did not noticed that a truck was approaching--", Yuri's mother wasn't able to finish her story as she started to break down in tears.

"Iie!! It's all my fault!!", Yamada shouted angrily.

"Iie.. it's not your fault. Don't blame yourself..", she said as she hugged Yamada and tries to calm his down.

"Why didn't you tell it to me in the first place auntie?!!", Yamada exclaimed.

"While we're taking him to the hospital.. he's begging me not to tell you about his accident--"

"BUT WHY??!", Yamada interrupted.

"Because he wants you to go to New York..! I can still remember his last words..", Yuri's mother said.

Yamada's heart was pounded as he realized the most painful part.. Yuri's gone. His bestfriend is gone..

In a soccer field..

Yamada run towards the goal keeper and kick the ball!

"GOAL!!",everyone shouted as they rejoiced for the victory of their team.

Yamada looked down and gazed at his soccer shoes. His wearing the shoes which was supposed to be given to him by Yuri.

"I know I'm playing with you Chii.. You're always on my side, right??", he said as he walks towards his team mates.
