I couldn't believe what just happened. Apple had killed my father, but why, what did Apple have to gain? My thoughts were soon interrupted by River.

"Mom, can me and Cherry go down to the creek,we're really hot!" Spoke River, my male puppy.

"I guess, just don't be gone long." I replied, I knew that the pups would obey, or did I?

After several hours waiting for the return of my pups, I decided to go look for them. As I arrived at the creek I found their trail and starting tracking them down. Their smell hung in the air, and it was unusually quiet. Without the barks and howls or even sounds of two rambunctious puppies playing in between two hills in a river valley. As I zeroed in on their trail I realized that the trail was getting dangerously close to the road, a little too close for comfort. I found the trail leading on and over the road. I didn't dare cross for I had knowledge of what happens, "I'll just backtrack and go under the bridge." I said as I turned a faint whimper ran into my ears, I started to follow the sound. As I followed the noise it led me under a fallen pine tree. And the call wasn't coming from something, it was coming from someone. And that someone was my puppy. I raced to it and realized it was River. Upon approaching him I took in the sight, heavy bleeding, possibly broken legs, broken ribs, sticking out able to be identified, and he was rapidly coughing up blood I knew he was fading fast.

"River! Darling, are you Okay?!" I knew he wouldnt make it so I laid beside him until he crossed the Rainbow Bridge into Heaven. I buried him after giving him one last goodnight kiss. And continued my search for Cherry. My search led me across the road and into the forest beyond. I found a blood trail and decided to follow it.
