As I left the apartment that night I couldn't help but smile. I was going on a date, which felt like the first time in forever. I smoothened a wrinkle on my dress as I smiled at Mark - the date. We'd met just a couple of days earlier in a bar a few blocks from my apartment and he right away asked me out, so here we were, only three days later, on that date.
I looked him over slowly, he was quite tall and muscular, but what stuck out the most to me was his eyes. They were a hazel-y color; kind of the opposite of my own ocean blue eyes, but oh so pretty nonetheless.
We walked out of the building and he lead me to his car where he opened the door for me, and I flashed him a smile, the effect was immediate and there was no way I wouldn't recognize it. He just looked at me with kind of starry eyes, unable to speak until I stopped. When I did he moved to the drivers side and got into the car himself.
The drive wasn't very long, and as we arrived I was delighted to see that we were in a remote location, up on a hill far above the rest of the town, not to far from the small lake I loved, so I knew the place pretty well. As we got out of the car I could see a blanket and a picnic basket waiting, he apparently went all in for this, something I appreciated although it was totally in vain. I wasn't planing on this relationship lasting very long anyway, they never did.
"So what do you think?" He asked with an anxious facial expression, a bit fake if you asked me since he knew that any girl would love the date he set up, which made me feel a bit better about my prediction of it not lasting.
"I love it." I said trying to sound as awestruck and amazed as I could, I mean, if he can act so can I, plus that he didn't have to know that this wasn't even close to impressing me.
The rest of the night went smoothly as well, and I almost felt myself dreading the ending of it, even though I knew I would never get tired of that feeling, the pure happiness and satisfaction. So when we had almost finished eating about two hours later and were looking at the stars I leaned a bit closer to him. For this to work I would need more physical contact, or maybe not need, but I wanted it, for now.
I put my head on his shoulder and he tensed up for a couple of seconds before relaxing and slowly putting his arm around me, when he'd done that I slowly turned my head and brought my lips to his.
That kiss was one of the best I've ever experienced, but soon enough I broke it of and in a almost singing voice asked him to come with me, and he once again looked at me with starry-eyes as he nodded before getting up and offering me his hand which I happily took.
I slowly lead our way through the nearby forest as I started singing and he simply followed me, still holding my hand.
When we got to a clearing I stopped and turned around again only to kiss him once more, and as we did I could feel us slowly moving backwards, and I smiled to myself.
After a couple of more steps I felt the water around my feet and then it went up to my knees before I made us fall and become swallowed by the water.
He stood up and laughed a bit before he stepped closer to me again while I took small steps further out into the lake, my lake. When we got to the waist high part I turned around and looked at him as he stepped up to me and grabbed my face before kissing me. He looked a bit disappointed when I once again broke it of.
"Let's go for a swim." I said only to dive back into the water, and I finally felt at home. I could feel it welcoming me back, as if it missed me as well. It probably did, I hadn't been there in just about two weeks, and I usually came there at the very least once a week.
When he went under the surface I swam up to him and kissed him again, and when we parted he opened his eyes for just about a second, but that was enough for him to react to what he saw. It was enough to react to me, my scales, my claws and my teeth. He started kicking around and tried to get away from me, but I held him closer and kissed him again.
I could see the light go out of his beautiful hazel eyes as he tried to hit me while gasping for air, but there was only water, and that was all there ever would be.
