There she was, sitting across the bar from me, her beauty radiating like the sun. Ruby red lips on a face framed by majestic blonde hair. Though she was surrounded by men, she looked disappointed, bored even.
It was dark in the club, smoke swirling from various cigarettes held in sweaty hands. The cocktail in my gloved hand dimly reflected the flickering lights on the broken "bar" sign above my head. Teasing the cigar from my mouth, I tapped out the ashes into the nearby tray. I thought the nicotine would help, but I couldn't stop thinking about her.
Those eyes. They were what fascinated me. It was like they'd seen everything but lusted for more and more excitement. She was unlike and girl I'd ever met, and, in that moment, I would have given anything just to kiss her.
Just as I made that wish, I heard the disappointed sighs of the men I'd seen crowding her, like a predator who'd just lost their prey. Not to be left out, I looked up.
She was looking straight at me.
She crossed the busy bar in no time at all, but for me it felt like time had slowed down. I slowly lifted my fedora as I basked in her radiance, dumbstruck but thrilled at the same time. It was happening. It was finally happening.
Suddenly, she was leaning in towards me. But she didn't kiss me. No, she leaned in very slowly and whispered in my ear...
"WHEEZY!"
