Chapter 1 - Arrival

"Hey, mom, why did you have to get transferred all the way to Manhattan?"

My mom looked at me, and then back at the road.

"Because that's just how things went, Haley. Modeling is a job that doesn't stay in one place."

"So,..why are you a model....and not like a normal mom with regular jobs?"

She laughed.

"Well, one, I like this job, and two, I don't think I could pull off being a normal mom."

"Well, I mean, I just want to settle somewhere for a while. I want to make friends. You know what I mean?"

"Yes honey, but don't worry. This is Manhattan, not Brookhaven. I don't think we're moving for a while."

I looked at her unconvinced, but then looked back at the road as we drove into the state of New York.

"Yay,..hey, don't you love this place?" my mom said running into our new, deluxe apartment.

I looked around at the living room and the kitchen at how beautiful it was.

I replied, "Yeah, all it needs is an extreme makeover. So mom, do you promise we won't move from here in two years?"

She over at me with a disappointed face.

"I don't know. It depends on where my job takes me. Besides, maybe you'll find....the one here."

I looked at her with a surprised face.

"Mom!..I'm eighteen. I think I'll just go with the flow for right now. I don't want to get married while I'm still a teenager."

"Well then, how about just a boyfriend?"

I looked down, and then said, "I think I'll be fine. Besides, maybe you should start looking for that one person. I mean, it's been three years."

She turned around and walked into her bedroom to put her stuff up.

I sighed, but did the same.

I picked up my bags and turned around to look at my room.

I walked forward and went up to my door.

Then, I opened it and went inside.

I stood in the doorway and looked around my room with a smile on my face.

It was amazing.

It was exactly how I pictured my dream room.

It was in the shape of a pentagon with different shades of purple paint on the walls.

My bed also sat in the far corner of the room with a black and purple comforter.

Across from it and to the right of the door, there was a black, leather couch with black and purple pillows.

Along the wall to the left of the bed and beside the door, there was a large bookshelf built into the wall.

It took up the whole wall and had tons of shells along with a section for a flat screen tv.

And lastly on the wall next to the couch, there was my bathroom.

It was a decent size with dark blue paint and a bathtub, toilet, and a one person sink.

It also had a cabinet above and under the sink.

I walked out of the bathroom and jumped face flat on my bed.

I sighed as I dropped all of my stuff and just lied there.

I gotta admit, it was nice here.

But how long till she has to transfer somewhere else?
