Chapter Four

I stood there looking at the manager, and as shocked as I was, I didn’t surpass Ryan’s shock. His eyes were wide open, and he was gaping at the manager with a funny expression on his face. A few times he tried speaking, while looking from the manager to me and back again. To sum it all up, he looked like a fish.

“Are you sure?” I managed to ask for Ryan.

The manager looked at me sweetly with a touch of pity on her face, “Yes ma’am, we’re very sorry, but that’s the last room, we’ve been very busy this month.” I could totally understand why they were busy, because it was summer and friends and families tend to go out on vacations but Ryan didn’t quite get their situation.

“No way! I need another room!” He whined and I rolled my eyes.

“I’m not that bad,” I muttered feeling a teeny bit hurt.

Ryan butted in with a hint of annoyance on his face, “I don’t have much money on me, remember that, so if there’s no other way, then you’ll just have to sleep in the car, while I take the room.”

“Say what?” I looked at Ryan with wide eyes and spoke in disbelief.

“I’m paying so I’ll be the one to make the final decision. You’re lucky that I even offer my car.” Yeah, that part was right. As much as I disliked him, I had to agree, he was a stranger after all. But then, I really wanted to sleep on a comfortable bed, I was wounded and he knew it. I was the person who needed beauty sleep the most, I was sure of it.

Without question, the manager typed into her computer. Then within seconds, she was holding a cardkey in her hands, stopping us from having second thoughts about this. Ryan reluctantly took it from her, and the manager spoke in her still-kind tone, “Your room is on the seventh floor,” We listened as she explained the details we needed to know about our stay.

We came to the elevator and Ryan kindly went in first, and almost closed the door on me. He hit the seventh floor button and in a second, the elevator jerked upwards. I felt extremely awkward in there, because by then, I was having second thoughts about living in the same room with a stranger  I had never done something like that before, so it was my first. I wondered what the jerk was thinking about, probably someway to escape that hell too.

There was a soft ding before the doors of the elevator opened. I stepped outside almost immediately as Ryan followed behind. Our room was situated right next to the elevator. As soon as Ryan opened the door with the cardkey, I ran in and hopped on the bed, claiming it to be mine.

“Oi, I’m the one paying for the room here,” Ryan demanded as he strolled towards me. Annoyance was clearly visible in his eyes. When he sat on the bed, I pushed him off. Angry, he crossed his arms and glared at me before demanding again, “Get off.”

I looked at him with a sickly sweet smile and stayed there, refusing to get up. Sprawling on the bed with the duvet hugging me underneath, I shook my head. Ryan gave me a you’re-so-not-winning look, and got up to pull my legs, which came along with the rest of my body. I got up before I could be dragged off the bed, and struggled against his pull.

Getting up, I pulled off my blue Toms which were dirty and coated in mud from the running. Throwing them off into the corner of the room, I ran towards the bed and started jumping on it while yelling, “You can’t catch me!”

Ryan smiled devilishly and pulled off his Nike shoes as well. Standing up on the bed, he tried to push me off but I didn’t let him. I wasn’t going to let him get the bed. I felt myself being pushed forward so I grabbed the only weapon I had beside me. I hit him right across the face with a big plushy pillow and watched as he stumbled down onto the bed. I sensed that he wasn’t going to surrender when he picked up a pillow.
