"I already told you I wasn't interested !" Sunggyu protested for the umpteenth time as Woohyun polished his profile.
"Here, all done !" his best friend grinned, handing back his phone. "You are officially quitting the sentimental desert. I promise you : Tinder will change your life."
Woohyun couldn't imagine it would change theirs, literally.
"I'm not sure." Dongwoo pouted. "This kind of thing works for you because you're mainly looking for quick hook-ups. I'm a romantic and I truly don't think I'll find the love of my life via this kind of app."
"Come on hyung, just try." Hoya reasoned with him. "What's the worst that can happen ? You having a one time thing casual sex, and that's sounds good to me." He chuckled. "Come on, it's fun ! Live with your age gramps !"
"Alright, alright, I'll try." he agreed, downloading the app. "One day. If in this lapse of time, I have not found anyone arousing my interest, I uninstall this thing and you buy kebabs tonight."
"Deal." The younger smiled, wrapping an arm around his shoulders. "Let's go now or we'll be late for our dance class."
Sunggyu's phone buzzed during their lecture on the Enlightenment movement in the seventeenth century. Thankfully the amphitheatre was overcrowded and his phone in vibrate mode. He cautiously took out of his pocket the object of the noise and checked his screen. He was quite surprised with what flashed at him.
Tinder alert : potential matches near you
"Woohyun. Woohyun !" he whispered then nudged his best friend –surely pretending to take notes and be focused on the lecture– to get his attention.
"What ?" the said man said in the same hushed tone, frowning. It was unlike Sunggyu to interrupt him during a lecture. Usually, he must admit, it was the other way around.
"Look at that." Sunggyu said, putting his phone on Woohyun's lap.
"Oh !" Woohyun said, surprised to see the Tinder notification. "Let me check that. I don't want you to end up with losers so let the expert of dating 2.0 control that... First, the info... Oh, he's a student in our University ! Jang Dongwoo, senior in Performing Arts, dance major..." he whispered for Sunggyu to hear... "It seems truthful, not fake. First control, pass. Second, his photos..." he scrolled on the Instagram and Facebook linked photos that Tinder acceded too. "It's the same person, so no fake, pass. Third, do you find him attractive ? He looks fairly handsome to me, but I'm not the one looking for a date." He smirked. "What do you think ?" he showed it to Sunggyu who, after looking at the photos, nodded shyly.
"Well, he passed my examinations and you find him attractive. You can scroll on the right for "like" and if he likes you back, you guys would be able to talk." Woohyun explained. "So, you try ?"
"I don't know..." Sunggyu nibbled his lower lip. "What if I "like" him but that he don't "like" me back ? It will be so embarrassing..."
Woohyun scoffed.
"How embarrassing ? This is between you and your phone, and me but that doesn't matter. No one will know if said dude won't show interest on you, you're not flirting with someone in a bar with eyes on you..."
"I will know." Sunggyu said stubbornly. "I will be embarrassed."
"My dear Sunggyu, you'll stay forever alone and will grow old surrounded by a dozen of cats if you don't dare !" Woohyun scolded him. "You have nothing to lose. I'm not asking you to plan a date for tonight ! Start talking to him on Tinder and if things goes well, then you'll see if you want to meet him in person. Deal ?" Woohyun said in an encouraging tone.
