I

The date was October 25th, the cold brisk air whipped around the browned leaves that had previously dropped off the branches. I wrapped my scarf tight around my neck, stuffing the ends inside my fleece trench coat, I slip out a pair of warm knit gloves from by breast pocket, pulling them on as the warmth instantly consumed my previously ice-cold fingers. I carefully opened the glass door not wanting to let the kitten out, I pushed and held on the door to completely shut it once I had stepped outside. I took a few steps down my porch the crisp autumn leaves crunching under my boots. I reach into my pocket taking out my phone, unraveling my headphones sticking the earbuds into my ears. "My touch is black and poisonous, and nothing like my punch drunk kiss....~" those words vibrated through the speakers into my ears, putting me at a sence of peace. I hopped down at the second to last step, my feet landing on the cobblestone walkway leading to the door. I headed down the walkway, skipping once I got to the paved driveway. I promised my mother I would go with her to pick out some new Halloween decorations this year, but now that shes got the flu, I convinced her to let me go on my own. I felt it was the nicest thing I could do for her right now instead of constantly being up her ass.

I stepped out onto the street, looking out both ways before I run to the otherside. As I ran the wires of my headphones whipped across my face with little to no force to actually hurt. I continued to walk down the long continuous road approaching the connecting road to the main road. I quickly made my way over to the sidewalk that stood next to the fence looking out to the highway. About 20 more minutes of walking I made it to a string of connected stores, I looked out at all the signs, my eyes scanning the words. Just my luck there was a Halloween store in that mix. I jogged up through the parking lot, making my way up to the door which was already wide open. I stepped inside, to be greeted by a worker or two.

I perused the isles looking for something intresting. I stumbled across of  those inflatable things you would put out on your lawn, but instead of the normal witch or black cat it was a very large to scale Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters with an angry expression on his face. Instantly thinking of my mother whom loves the movies. I pulled the box out from the bottom shelf, trying to hoist it up in my arms but ultimately failing. I look out of the corner of my eye to see a worker approaching me slowly.

(Y/N):" H-hey uhm could you help me with this, it's a bit heavy."

???:" Oh yeah, no problem. Is this the only thing you are getting? Would you like me to bring this up to the register for you?"

(Y/N):" Yes please that would be very helpful, and no I'm gonna look around for a few more things. Thank you though."

I gaze down to his shirt, looking at his nametag, which read "Tsuzuku". Pretty intresting name I guess, not one I've ever heard before. My attention was diverted back up to his face, there seemed to be two twin horns planted ontop of his head and spines all along his chin and sides of his cheeks as well as under his eyes. His nose was long and sort of flat resembling a reptile of some sort. His face was riddled with perfectly aligned glistening emerald green scales that cascaded down his neck and arms. I steered my attention closer to the scalloped scales. I assume it was just a mask but when would he have time to put on a scaled shirt. Tsuzuku's head ticks to the side and his face morphs back to normal. He backed up slowly, soul penetrating fear in his eyes.

Tsuzuku:" W-wait......you. Y-you're a grimm! N-no P-please don't hurt me.....t-take what you want and get out."

He hesitantly bends down and places the box onto the floor, running back behind the counter and out a door with a sign plastered on it that read "Staff Only". Looking around I looked for someone to help me with the box, a nice older gentleman came over to help me by bringing up the box to the register, while I continued to shop. I ended up gathering a few small things like orange lights, large spiders strung up on strings, cobwebs in a bag, animated talking grim reaper that could be hung outside as well as a few window and door decorations. I stumbled my way over to the register, trying hard not to drop anything. I set everything onto the counter and patiently stood there. I swung my head to the staff door hearing what sounded like two people arguing.

Person 1:" I told you I-I'm not working the register today. //indistinguishable muddering// Theres a grimm here and im not taking my chances....I didn't come into work today to // more indistinguishable murmurs//"

Person 2 (shouting):" A grimm? You must be out of your god damn mind, kid. Ain't no grimms around here. There hasn't been one for decades. //Long pause of silence// You know what.....Fine. FINE! I'll go out and do the job YOU were hired to do, but next time you're not getting out of this that easy."

And the door swings open completely, hitting the wall. A tall white man, about early 40's stepped out angrily walking to the counter. I looked at the nametag pinned to the breast pocket of his shirt which read "Matthew". His demeanor instantly changed as he stood in front of me, obviously not wanting to upset any customers.

Matthew:" Hi, will that be all? Whatchu doing gettin' all these decorations so close to Halloween. You seem like the kinda girl who takes it seriously........I-in a good way I mean. That sounded a bit rude. I'm sorry. "

(Y/N):" Yes that will be all, thank you and ugh you know my mom has been pretty sick lately and were were suppose to go look for some new stuff earlier in the month but she just hasn't been feeling well. All our old stuff aside from a few select things are pretty much trash."

Matthew let out a hearty chuckle, nodding while he takes up my things, scanning them and placing them in bags setting them onto the counter. I wiggle out my mom's debit card from the slot on the back of my phone, handing it to him. He entered the needed info into the computer before swiping the card through the scanner, handing it back to me.

Matthew:" Yeah I get what you're saying. I hope your mom starts feeling better and have a great day"

He hands me my recipt, as I try crumpling it up and stuffing it into one of the bags, I see out of the corner of my eye the man's face changed, then turned back to normal a few seconds later. He looked somewhat beastly....like a dog or a wolf. Those menacing blood red eyes, canine like upperlip and wild tofts of fur-like hairs on his face. I ran out quickly, wanting to get home. Wanting to get away from the place that was making me feel like I was going crazy.
