RAVEN'S POV
"Mommy! Why do you have a big tummy?". The heavily pregnant woman stopped her baking and smiled sweetly at the eight year old female-version of her husband. Black hair and emerald eyes stared back at her questioningly. "Well sweetie, it is because you are gonna get a little sister or brother soon!" , the woman chirped happily. The girl just stared at her mother for her a few seconds and replied "oh okay". 'Just like her dad' the woman mused quietly. Her daughter obviously inherited all of her father's genes both in the looks department as well as their characters. The woman silently prayed that at least this kid within her would resemble her in some way. The woman's brunette hair swayed as she placed the cake on the table and did the icing work. All the time, the kid had been quiet and silently staring at her mother. The woman gave one thorough look-over of the cake, scrutinizing for any flaws. A ghost of a smile graced her lips as she admired her handwork. "So what do you think of it, Emmie?" the woman asked the girl. The girl eyed the cake up and down for a few seconds before giving a nod of approval. Before the girl could reply, she heard a gasp coming from behind and a big 'WHOA!'. The girl immediately got up from her chair and stood before the cake, as if she was protecting it." DON'T come near the cake, Nick!" she snapped at the ten year old boy before her. The girl was very well aware of her cousin's "destructive habits" of destroying anything beautiful and she would NEVER let him spoil her mom's masterpiece. The woman chuckled slightly at her daughter's little outburst and left the kitchen after kissing her daughter's forehead. The girl still hadn't moved her stance and was busy glaring at the brunette boy before her. Mischievous brown eyes stared back at her and a thought struck the boy. "And what ae you going to do about it, Vennie?", the boy taunted the girl in a fake sweeet voice. He knew she hated the nickname"vennie" and purposely did it to irritate her. The girl's face became red with anger and she lunged at the boy. The boy began running out, all the while laughing loudly, to the backyard. He was constantly chanting "Vennie" "Vennie",enjoying the annoyance he was giving his little cousin. The girl suddenly stopped and fell to the ground on her knees, her breathing labored. The boy stopped his chanting and neared the profusely shaking form of his cousin. " Vennie, are you okay?" When he touched her arm, the girl snapped her head at the boy and he stumbled back at the sight before him. His cousin's forest green eyes were now pitch black and she was baring her teeth at him. "Don't you call me Vennie again!" Before the boy grasp anything, the tiny hands of his cousin, which were gripping his forearm, began burning him. Her fingers were covered with fire and despite the boy's loud wails of anguish and pain, she didn't stop. "RAVEN!" As soon as she heard her mother's panicked voice, the girl snapped out of her trance-like state and stared at the unconscious form of her cousin on the ground, his skin burnt at the forearms. The girl stumbled back from the scene before her, too shocked to speak, and glanced at her mother who looked equally stunned. "I-I-I'm s-s-sor-sorry, m-mommy", the girl stammered, tears flowing profusely down her tender cheeks before dashing into the house.
I jolted to a sitting position on the old bed and was perspiring as if I had an asthma attack. It was just a dream. I quickly got from the bed and went to the smelly bathroom of the shabby motel in Australia where I was currently staying. I splashed cold water on my face and stared at the mirror before me. Ugh! My look was one of utter disgust as I quickly removed the brown wig from my head, letting my waist-long jet black hair flow down in straight waves. 'Forget it, Rae. You never dreamt about it', I tightly shut my eyes and chanted the words mentally. After a couple of deep breaths, I stared at the mirror again, this time a bit calm. Lifeless green eyes stared back at me as I thought, 'at least I had enough sense to remove those stupid lenses last night'. After tying my long hair in a messy bun, I made my way to the bedroom. I took my worn-out rucksack and rummaged through it. Taking the blood-stained knife and the small bottle of alcohol, I made my way back to the bathroom. As I began cleaning the knife, a slow, sinister smile made its way to my face as I remembered Paul's stunned reaction when I revealed myself. One down, three to go. After cleaning it, I took a clean set of clothes and made my way to the shower. The cold water was welcoming against my skin and I closed my eyes, relishing in the soothing feeling. As I stared down at my palms, I realized that it was completely healed. Every time I create fire, my skin usually gets burnt but then, eventually it heals itself up miraculously. Just then, I heard the distant ringing of my mobile and after getting quickly dressed, I ran towards the bedroom. When I saw the words "Unknown Number" flash, I momentarily stiffened but cautiously picked the call. "Is the work done?", a male voice spoke at the other end of the line. Realizing who it is, I relaxed a bit, but still replied in a monotonous voice ," Yes, and clean of evidence". "You needn't say that. You are the best and I have no doubts about that. I was just worried about you", the voice had a bit of concern in it. How could you feel anything for me? I want you to hate me! You should be hating me! I wanted to scream that loud, but stopped myself from doing so. " Yes, I am fine and will call you when I land on US", my reply was curt. "Oh okay, be safe Raven. Good bye", the voice sounded dejected towards the end. I gripped my phone harder, feeling anger and at the same time, shame course through me. " I will. Good bye, Nick".
