On the peaks of the mountains high
Where you'll hear the brumbies cry
The warm wind blows their manes
As they race down the plainesThe mighty stallion leads the herd
All the mares follow his word
He leads them down to the cool, wet creek
As the foals become tired and weakThey rest under the shade of a gum
Their hearts beating like a drum
The foals sleep, they've done their best
All the horses need the restBut just as they think their day is done
It turns out they go for another run
The stallion senses man around
He can feel the danger on the groundThe stallion makes his call to rally
He leads his herd to the lush, green valley
Now with the mares completely hidden
He turns around to the horse that's riddenThe hero deceives the man and horse
And forces him to go off coarse
Away from the valley where the horses hide
He takes the enemy for a long, rough rideThey gallop through the rugged land
Through the dirt as soft as sand
To the place where only brumbies can go
To the mountain peaks covered in snowThe man commands his horse to stop
He and his mount can't reach the top
He's been outwitted by the stallion again
The brumbies continue to escape the menThe man returns to where he belongs
The legend is sung through the mountain songs
Now the stallion calls to his clan
Again they are safe from the invading man
