35: Cross My Fingers

[Jungkook's Pov]

Jungkook's mum: "By letting you love Yoonmi."

Wait! What? Let me love Yoonmi? This doesn't make any sense! How is this supposed to help me? I'm so confused!

Jungkook: "Jam kkan manyo (wait a second). Eomma (mum). Can you repeat that?"

Jungkook's mum: "I know it's going to be hard but if he truly loves you he would let you go. It's for your safety."

Jungkook: "Eomma (mum). How can you even believe this psychic?"

Jungkook's mum: "She was the one who predicted you'd be a singer."

Jungkook: "But...I don't want to believe her."

Jungkook's mum: "There's one more thing."

Jungkook: "More? Is this good or bad?"

Jungkook's mum: "Sort of good. On the new moon day which is in five days something horrible will happen to you. It might even cost you your life but here's the good part. If Jin dares to sacrifice himself in order to save you all your misfortune will end. Then you and Jin can be together again."

Jungkook: "But if Jin saves me from death wouldn't he...die instead?"

She doesn't respond because I know she doesn't like the answer to that either. I can't let him die instead of me. I can't lose him. I don't want to. I'd rather love someone else than see him die because of me.

Jungkook's mum: "For the time being just stay away from Jin so nothing else happens to you before the new moon day."

Jungkook: "Arasseoyo (okay)."

I end the phone call with my mum. I walk back inside the room. Jin already fell asleep so I had to go outside to take the phone call. I climb into bed and lie on his chest.

Jungkook: "I guess this might be the last time I can sleep in your arms like this."

Now that I think about it there were times Jin was around when something harmful happened to me. Like the ladder and the fish bones.

Jungkook: "Jin...something bad is going to happen to me soon. I think my life is nearly at it's end. Promise me...you won't grieve over me too much."

My eyes start getting watery as I say these painful words. I hug his waist tightly.

Jungkook: "I don't want you to know what's going to happen to me because I'd hate to see you die for me."

Jin: "What can't you tell me?"

I widen my eyes. He heard me all this time? This is not good! He can't find out! What do I say?

Jin: "Yes I was awake all this time."

Jungkook: "Umm...how much of it did you hear?"

Jin: "Jungkook what are you not telling me?"

Even without looking at his face I can tell he is quite aggravated. I get off his chest and we both sit up.

Jin: "Jungkook. I'm only going to ask you this once."

He looks so serious especially in the dark. I've never seen this side of him before. His glare is quite intimidating.

Jin: "Are you not even going to speak?"

Jungkook: "I...uh...my mum told me something."

Jin: "What is it?"

I tell him exactly what my mum had told me.

Jin: "Looks like I'll have to get life insurance now."

Jungkook: "Wait...what? I can't let you die for me!"

Jin: "If you didn't know for those five days you were unconscious after the stage accident I never left your side. I hugged you to sleep every night. The hospital became almost like my home."

Jungkook: "What has that got to do with this?"

Jin: "Every time I was near you I got to hear your heart monitor beeping faster."

Jungkook: "Um."

Jin: "I'm saying I won't die. Because I trust you will also stay by my side and keep my heart beating forever."

I look into his eyes and saw hope. He just keeps getting better. The tears come flowing out of my eyes. His reassuring words really put my mind at ease.

Jin: "I won't ever stop loving you even if from now to the new moon day we'll have to be apart."

My eyes are like waterfalls right now. He uses his thumbs to wipe the tears off of my face. I give him a huge smile of happiness. We lie back down again and cuddle tightly.

Jungkook: "Do you know what the worst feeling in the world is?"

Jin: "Hunger? Hmm. There are many."

Jungkook: "Maybe in your case. But it's when you love someone but you just can't be with them."

Jin: "My kookie. I know it will be difficult but the distance will be nothing compared to our love."

Jungkook: "I love you."

I give him a light peck on the lips.

Jin: "I love you too."
