Zack threw the doors of the castle wide open. He breathed in the fresh, summer air of the kingdom. He felt the blowing of the wind through his messy, brown hair, and smiled. His green eyes scanned the area, looking for nothing in particular.
He noted the busy people on their way to their work. Zack found the peasants interesting, though his parents, the king and queen, found them strange and obtuse. They frowned upon a life of work and low wealth.
Thats how life was, though. Zack was the prince of the kingdom, his parents, King Grape and Queen Bee, we're allowing of Zack to go out, but only under the stipulation that he has no physical contact with the peasants.
And so he agreed. He wanted nothing more than to please his parents. They still treated Zack like a child, even though he's 17 years old. Zack didn't mind it. At heart he was a child and he always would be so long as he's prince. Only when he has a queen and his father dead, would he become king.
Yet Zack didn't want a queen, but another king. Zack's eyes roamed to a young boy with well kept brown hair and chocolate brown eyes, that to Zack, burned with intense determination.
The peasant strolled onward toward an unknown destination. Zack kept to the shadows and closely followed the boy.
After what seemed a few minutes, they made it to the market. 'So this is where he was going.' Zack thought. Zack nonchalantly entered the market after waiting a few seconds after the boy.
Zack slowly shuffled over to a stack of big boxes that we're near the boy, who was now walking up to another, older, boy.
"Hey, Nathan!" The peasant cheered to the other peasant, Nathan, that seemed about 19 years old.
"Hey, Joe!" Nathan replied, happily. "So why did you ask me to meet you at the market?"
"Well I didn't come to browse the place." Joe mused. "I wanted to ask if you wanted to do business."
'What' Zack thought. 'Why would they trade here? Out of all places?' Zack pushed the thoughts out of his head and started listening into their conversation, now heating into a debate.
"Why won't you take the five, live, pigs for the knife? Don't you know how good pigs are for your health? They're tasty, too." Nathan shouted.
"For the last time, Nathan. I don't like killing animals!" Joe rebutted.
"Fine! I'll have them killed for you! I just need that knife as soon as possible." Nathan ended, walking away before Joe could say a word.
Zack was shaken. He had never heard an argument, let alone be so close to one. Zack started to slowly stand, but stopped when he heard footsteps coming to him. Zack looked up and saw Joe.
"Um, would you happen to be the prince?" Joe whispered.
"Oh, uh, yeah, I am!" Zack exclaimed.
Joe was about to speak but was quieted by Zack standing up and scrambling off.END OF CHAPTER 1
I hope this is good enough as a chapter. I work on this story's chapters in bits and pieces meaning that i work for a little bit and resume later, doing the same thing again. Chapters should be longer than this in the future but this'll do for now. Peace ✌️
