(Author's note: This is from the point of view of my Harry Potter character, Lola Snape. Lola Snape and her sister, Alix Snape are the only properties I own in this story. Everything else is J.K. Rowling's. Enjoy! :DD)
He didn't meet my eyes. We both knew if he did, then we'd both cry. The office was quiet. The seconds ticked away, and terror was growing on me. I fidgeted with my tie.
My sister was fighting the Death Eaters. I couldn't have gone. I wanted to though. I wanted to kill Voldemort.
I wanted to cause him pain.
My father finally looked at me. "He thinks the Elder wand is mine," he said in a hushed tone, my heart began to race, "He thinks his magic isn't good enough right now."
"He's going to kill you, isn't he?" I muttered, not looking at him. I heard my father shuffle in his chair.
"Yes."
I leaned forward and covered my face, "How long do you have?"
"A couple hours, maybe," my father whispered. He reached over the desk and held my hand. "Don't cry for me," he muttered, wiping the tears off of my cheek.
"But," I said, sputtering, "You and Alix-"
He cut me off, "Alix is very brave. I think you two will be able to take care of yourselves."
"No," I said, raising my voice, "Father, no. Run away! Please! I can't lose you!" I clenched my fists, frustrated.
"I have to do this," my father said, standing up, and walking towards the window, "Lola, you look so much like me."
I had always know this. I looked like him and Alix looked like Mom. Or so Father said. I had never met my mother. I looked back up at him, and my father had tears in his eyes. "Don't be scared," he whispered mostly to himself.
"We have to go now," my father said, hurrying over, "Potter is in the castle."
"I'll take a bet," I said, standing up, "he's in the room of requirement."
"Undoubtedly," he said, "but I'm not going to be the one to catch him."
"Why not? Then, he'd spare you, and everything would be okay!"
He didn't answer. My father walked to me and grabbed my wrist. He and I vanished to where a mass of Death Eaters were.
Voldemort, the man I wanted to hurt, was at the head of the line, leading the Death Eaters to Hogwarts. I still held on to my father's wrist, scared that I may lose him in the mass.
At once, every Death Eater, including my father, raised their wands and shot into the force field surrounding the place I had once called my home. I raised my wand, as tears streamed down my face, and shot the wall. The brilliant force field began to weaken. I could feel so much guilt. I hated being a Death Eater. I'm a coward. I should have bucked up and abandoned the Death Eaters and became one of Dumbledore's Army.
The force field collapsed. The top evaporated and shattered, crumbling onto the castle. I felt more tears drip onto my robes. I looked up at my father and caught his eyes, "I don't want to do this."
Voldemort raised his wand. He shouted about wanting Harry Potter and nobody would be hurt if Harry was turned to him. I shuffled next to my father. I turned to him and mouthed the words, "Please." He shook his head without even looking at me.
Voldemort bared his teeth, "BEGIN!"
The mass around me sprinted. I held onto my father's wrist, sobbing as I ran. I could hardly see. It was so chaotic. As I ran in, I saw Alix dueling a masked Death Eater. She disarmed the Death Eater, then Stupefied him. A look of disgust crossed her face as she stood over him and prodded his face with her foot.
"Alix!" I said, running to her.
She drew her wand, not realizing it was me, then, returned it when she realized she had almost knocked out her own sister. "Lola? What the he-"
"No! Don't judge me," I snapped, "Father....Something's happened."
She looked down at the ground, "I know."
"Do you want to talk to him? One last time?" I asked.
Alix was about to answer. Then, a sixth year Gryffindor came running to her,"Alix! We need you in the library. Yaxley found a secret way in and he's pretty powerful."
Alix knodded her head, then turned back to me, "He knows I love him." She the ran up the Grand Entrance, to the library.
I ran through the crowd, dodging curses. Suddenly, I saw a flash of black hair. "Father!" I shouted, sprinting towards him. I landed beside him, "Alix says-"
Suddenly, out of the mass of confusion, Lucius Malfoy appeared. "Severus," he said, raising his voice, "The Dark Lord requests you in the boat house."
I watched my father nod to Lucius. "Father," I pleaded after Lucius had went back to the fight, "Please."
My father looked at me. "Don't follow me, Lola. Stay here."
"No!" I cried, crumbling from sadness.
"Lola, I love both of my daughters very much. Please, don't cry for me."
I cried harder at that and hugged my father. For a moment, I was a pathetic five year old with skinned knees. I would do anything to not be saying goodbye to my father for the last time. It seemed like, if we just left, then everything in the world would become cute and innocent again. I could stay young forever with my father and sister at Spinner's End.
Then, my father let go. He looked at me one last time, then turned on heel and was gone at the blink of an eye. I stood there, dumbfounded. In a nutshell, I remembered every great memory with my father.
Then, I saw him. Harry Potter and his friends were sprinting down to the boat house. No! They'll ruin everything! I don't want them to see him die. I followed them, several paces behind. When I got down to the boat house. Harry and his friends were staring into a hole inside. My hands trembled as I kneeled beside Harry. Suddenly, all was forgotten, as I watched my father collapse to the ground. Harry placed his hand on my back. I had never really liked him, but his hand on my back was comforting as I cried in silence.
The snake struck him again and again. Everytime the snake struck him, I flinched. I covered my face, and gritted my teeth as the horrible realization grew on me. Voldemort called his snake back to his side, then dissappeared. I threw Harry's hand off and ran inside. I collapsed beside my father as the blood pooled around him.
"Father," I cried, holding onto his neck, "No."
He turned towards me, as Harry and the other's came in. "Lola?" he barely whispered.
"Please, don't go!"
He hugged my neck. "I love you and Alix both," my father whispered. He turned to Harry. A single silver tear slipped out of his eyes. "Take them," he gurgled, "Take them."
Harry filled a flask with the memories my father was letting go of. I clutched my father's shoulders and he looked at Harry, "You have your mother's eyes."
My father turned back towards me, real tears in his eyes, "Goodbye, Lola."
"Please," I begged, "please stay with me."
"I will always be with you. Whether you realize it or not, "he whispered, his hand on my cheek.
"Do you promise?"
"Always."
Severus Snape, my own father, the man who had raised me's hand fell off my cheek. His eyes lost the life I had clung onto for so long. I held onto my father's lifeless hand, as I laid my head on his chest, planning what I would say to Alix.
"Always," I mouthed silently, tears dripping onto my father's bloodied robes.
