"One day I won't get hurt by what she says. One day I won't run away from her anymore. One day she'll be my mother again." I look up at Seth and see him staring down at me with his brown eyes. He wraps his arms around my entire body and makes me feel...good.
1 day and half earlier
"You are dismissed," my teacher announced. But of course, almost the entire class was already out the door before she even said a word.
"Kat!" I swing my whole body around to face the opposite direction I was walking in. I saw my best friend Morgan screaming my name and met her halfway down the hallway. "Hey, did you hear?" I shook my head and continued walking, her on my side.
"Mrs. Tore is having an affair with the chemistry teacher." I laughed.
"When is she not having an affair. You know the reason why Mike is still with her, right?" I look at her curiously. Mike has parents who frown upon divorce and probably would never talk to him if he got divorced. Thanks to our school's gossip twitter page, everyone knows everything that goes around the school. Whether it's a teacher's affair or a teacher/student relationship.
Some how this person finds out about the sexual transmitted diseases that float around people.
"Obviously..." I smile at her and we make our way to the theater room. "Guess who joined theater?" I didn't say anything causing her to move on. "Ryan Lane."
I stopped dead in my tracks. Feeling my phone vibrate in my pocket. It's the end of the day and I was heading to practice which means, I am about to get yelled at. I slide the talk button up and put the phone to my ear. "Hi, mom."
"Where the hell are you?" She is slurring her words together which means she is drunk again. "Hello! Can you not hear me?"
"I am going to practice like always," I sigh into the phone not wanting to have this conversation again.
"You are supposed to be picking up Selena!" She yells into the phone. Selena is my 14 year old sister who usually walks home but she can't now. She just broke her ankle. My mom and I worked out a schedule to where I would pick her up Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. She would do Tuesday and Thursday. It's Thursday.
Morgan glances at me and I motion for her to go up there without me. She walks away hesitantly. "No, you're supposed to getting her. We already talked about this..." I said in a hushed voice. "I gotta go. Bye."
I hang up the phone and run up the stairs finding Morgan immediately. "What's going on?" She looks up at me worriedly. "Do I need to hide you again?"
"Mom's drunk again and I have to leave to go pick up Selena. And honestly it's time I do something about her." She grabs my arm and pleads through her eyes. I shake her hand off my arm and silently tell her to cover for me.
I run out of the room and start sprinting towards my motorcycle. Not realizing I was going to have to pick up my sister, I took it this morning instead of the car.
I run into someone causing both of us to fall flat on our butts. "I am so sorry..." I say tiredly. I get up and look at the guy still on the ground.
"It's okay." He smiles at me and stares at me the entire time. "Your strong." He chuckles weakly and breaks eye contact.
"Thanks." I say looking at the ground. "Your Seth Lane, aren't you?" He looks taken aback.
"You know who I am?" I nod while smiling on the inside realizing that he barely has any friends. And nobody really notices him.
"Of course, we were science partners in 7th grade. How could I forget setting the school on fire." I laugh and he does the same.
We both calm down and he starts to look a little bit upset. "Everyone else forgot, why didn't you?" I look away weakly, remembering what had happened when we went to each others house to work.
