~Chapter 17~
(Christina’s POV)
I missed Mom a lot. Things have been so boring at home. All we ever do is go out all the time with dad and Darryl. I knew she was my sister, but it didn’t feel like it. She tries all the time to get close to me. She acted like she was my mom sometimes. I don’t know who gave her that big idea. With the way Dad and her are always around each other, he’s probably blowing her head up. She had the nerve to tell me last night, “You know while your mom’s away, feel free to come to me for anything. It’ll be like I’m your temporary mom.” It’s like the more she’s around me the more touchy I get. KJ doesn’t know any better. That probably explains why he seems like he loves Darryl so much. Ugh, and Keith? It’s like he’s got all of Daddy’s attention. Dad takes Keith shopping, takes Keith to the circus, buys Keith toys, and reads Keith bed time stories. What makes that kid so special? I try to pay more attention to KJ so he doesn’t feel forgotten. I saw it all happening. They thought I couldn’t see it. Both of them thought I wasn’t smart enough to catch on to what’s going on around here but I knew. I knew mom and dad were getting a divorce. I just knew it. All they ever do is argue anyway and now mom is on vacation. She said it was so she could do some “soul searching” but I know that’s just adult talk for she wanted to figure out if she really wanted to divorce dad. I acted like it didn’t bother me. Why should it? I want them to be happy and split up then to be miserable and married. I kept turning the channel on the TV. There was nothing to watch. It was raining outside so I couldn’t play with my friends. Today was just boring. I walked downstairs to see what Daddy, Darryl, and the boys were doing. I found KJ and Keith downstairs playing with their Power Ranger toys. “Where’s dad?” I asked KJ.
“Downstairs,” KJ said looking at me blankly.
“In the basement?” I asked him. He wasn’t paying attention. I tapped his shoulder and asked again. “KJ, is daddy in the basement?” He looked at me a nodded really fast. I left them and walked towards the basement door.
“No! Chrissy, daddy said no!” KJ yelled.
“No, what?” I asked walking back to them.
“Daddy said no go downstairs,” KJ said shaking his head no and pointing to the basement door.
“That’s not how you say it KJ. Say; Daddy said don’t go downstairs.”
“Daddy said don’t go downstairs Chrissy,” KJ said back to me.
“Why not?” I asked. He shrugged his shoulders and kept playing with Keith. I pulled some Starburst out my pants pocket. “Here. I’m giving you candy so you can’t tell daddy I went downstairs or I’m not gonna give ya’ll anymore candy okay?” I said to both KJ and Keith. They nodded their hands as I put down ten pieces of Starburst. “Look. One, two, three, four, five for you, and one, two, three, four, five for Keith.” I said. KJ had a habit of not sharing. “Remember, don’t tell daddy,” I said seriously to him before walking back to the basement door. I turned the knob slooooowly and opened the door even slower and quietly. There was music and a TV playing downstairs. They might have not heard me even if I slammed the door right now. I tip toed down the steps. Clang, clang, clang, clang… I heard. It was a constant beat. Like listening to the dryer go round and round and that same jean button slamming the inside. Clang clang…I stopped dead in my tracks. I couldn’t believe it. I heard about this. I’ve been talked to about this. I’ve seen snippets of this in movies, but nothing like this. I covered my mouth. If I hadn’t they would have heard a reaction. Darryl’s dress was lifted up as daddy kept pushing himself into her butt over and over again as she was bent over the sink. He was making little noised while Darryl was being shook like a rattle. She kept screaming. Her face was scrunched, and she her mouth was open. It’s like she wanted to say something but she couldn’t. He was hurting her. “Mm, Kenny. Oh my gaaaawd, yessss!” I heard Darryl yelling. I wanted to rip my eyes out. I could see them from the middle of the stairway; they couldn’t see me from their position in the basement bathroom. The door was cracked halfway open. I couldn’t take anymore. I rushed back up the stairs and shut the door quietly. They were having sex...
