I paddled away from the old worn dock
in my tiny little boat
I didn't bring any supplies thinking....
This is all she wrote
I set to sea to end it all
didn't bother to chart a course
I would let mother nature grant
my body and soul a divorce
I drifted for hours aimlessly
on a seemingly endless ride
Threw my paddle overboard
allowed my boat to follow the tide
I could feel the sun beating on my face
hear thunder in the air
still I lay back and closed my eyes
too distraught to care
Then suddenly I heard beside the boat
a mysterious splashing sound
I slowly sat up and looked over the side
I was amazed at what I found
Hanging on to my floating coffin
was a mermaid with long brown hair
She looked up at me with bright, liquid eyes
as I struggled to take in air
She took my hand and held it to her face
then looked me in the eye
she said "My friend, listen to me,
you do not have to die"
I said " I'm tired of all this pain.
There is no hope for me.
That's why I have come all this way,
to die here on the sea."
Then she pulled me overboard
so that we were face to face
she told me there was another way,
there was another place.
She said "Come with me beneath the waves
and I promise you will see
a wonderful world where creatures live
in peace and harmony."
"Come my friend and you will be
able to live in bliss and glee
beneath the waves you will swim free
deep inside the seas of me."
