It dawned on him that long haul flights were a rather tiresome part of his life. Today flying to Japan was definitely not what he needed. Sure, seeing Tiger again would be nice. They could reminisce over the past a little, and remember when life in the service had been a bit edgier and, well, much much more exciting.
James Bond brushed the dark comma of hair back off his forehead and opened the laptop in front of him. He opened a file that said Memorandum. The Memorandum was a document that had been intercepted and then circulated amongst the double 0 section. It had on it a list of five intelligence chiefs. One was Major General Nikitin of the former KGB now known as the FSB. Another was Rene Mathis who was now the new and recently promoted head of DGSE the French Intelligence service, one was Tiger Tanaka the former head of the Japanese intelligence service. The fourth was Barbara Mawdsley - Bond's own boss, more commonly known as "M", and the fifth was the current head of the CIA, Damian Falco. Underneath this list was a brief, a short letter that read:The above named to be dealt with in accordance with directive number 1.
Should operation fail directive number 2 will come into play. There was no signature or evidence of where the memo had come from. It had been intercepted by a new special intelligence email scanning system which scan's email's sent to certain listed email accounts known collectively as target accounts. These target accounts are known addresses used by individuals known to the intelligence services. This particular memo was sent to an address owned by a website run by Basque sympathisers linked to the terrorist organisation ETA. Upon interception it wasn't long before the information had been passed on to Bill Tanner - M's Chief Of Staff - from there it was passed on to M herself with a top priority stamp. Within a half hour copies of the memo were in each of the double 0's in-trays. 007 picked up the memo and read it, and then read it again - his hand was just about to go to his internal phone when it rang - it was the direct line from M's office.
"Ma'am?"
"Yes 007. You've just read the copy of that memo?"
"Yes"
"Good, can you nip down here straight away -I need to brief you. You will be on your way by ten- so look lively."
James Bond nodded and replaced the receiver.
"So its time again, to enter into the fray." He said to himself. Where was M going to send him this time?
Standing up, he removed his new two button single breasted navy worsted suit jacket from the back of his chair. It fit beautifully and just how 007 had requested. Through Bill, his best friend in the service and M's Chief of Staff, he had been introduced to a relative newcomer at Savile Row - an innovative tailor called William Hunt. It had been during a round of golf, when Bond had commented on his friend's golfing attire. Bill had replied,
"Oh yes, nice stuff. The polo and trousers are from William Hunt's 'Golfsexy' range,
And the hat is William Hunt also. He's a tailor from Savile Row who is basically attempting to make Golf cool again- and not only that - his bespoke suits are great too."
"Hmm, Bill I do like those trousers - the colour is a bit loud for me though. Still I bet that outfit doesn't improve your swing." He said smiling.
"No of course not- but it might distract opponents from their game," Bill said smirking, "he's got a fantastic range of fabrics James - you should check him out."
"Perhaps I will Bill - now watch me hit the green from here"He now straightened his tie, a slim black knitted one tied in a four in hand knot that complemented his light blue sea-island cotton shirt, he then ran his hand through his hair and headed down the corridor to the lift that would take him to M's inner sanctum.
"Sit down 007. Coffee?"
"Please Ma'am."
M pressed the intercom and requested for Miss Moneypenny to bring in coffee for two."Right James, there is not much to go on I'm afraid - but we have some more information that could quite possibly be connected."
"Go on."
"Well Euskadi Ta Askatasuna or ETA, the Basque separatist movement was the destination of the email via a website for the attached memorandum. Upon receiving that we looked up our latest intelligence on ETA, and one of their key figures in the organisation- one Francisco Javier López Peña was arrested in a joint operation between the French DGSE and Spain's CNI (Centro Na ciona l de Inteligencia) last month, so obviously we contacted your friend Mathis to see what information he could share. There wasn't much he could add apart from the fact Peña was about to visit Japan to meet this man - one Hiroshi Nakamura a member of Aum Shinrikyo - The group that was responsible for the subway Sarin gas attacks in 1995." M passed a colour photograph across the desk. Bond looked. The man also known as Hiro was about forty, of average build and quite typical Japanese features, his hair was the typical glossy black straight hair associated with the far eastern nations, however his hair was quite long with a fringe that sat just above his eyebrows which were dark and thick.
"I thought Hiroshi Nakamura was already in prison?"
"You're thinking of his father who was arrested for armed robbery and the murder of that security guard."
"Right. So this is his son. So he's equally as nasty then?"
M looked Bond in the eye,"Perhaps more so. It is believed he is responsible for the deaths of fourteen individuals, and the rumour is, is that he is a gun for hire"
"So you want me to track him down?"
"Well I want you to go and see Tiger- after all - it's on his patch- but yes with Tiger we need to get Hiro Nakamura- find out if he is the assassin that the memo is aimed for and then track down who has put out this contract.
