I sat in my room, contentedly reading. My thoughts began to wander as time passed.
How cool would it be to become a hero;
Showing bravery in the face of danger, preventing the downfall of mankind, getting the girl.
I sighed, shaking the thought and stood up, stretching out my joints. I stode over to the window and opened it, welcoming the cool autumn breeze on my skin. Leaning out the window, I observed my surroundings, watching the children across the street on my quiet little cul-de-sac run around, enjoying the abundance of colorful, crunchy autumn leaves littering the ground.
Just as I was going to return to my novel, a loud crash sounded nearby. I froze, fingers tightly clenching the windowsill, as children ran screaming back into their homes.
I grabbed my coat  and sprinted down the stairs, heading to see the cause of the disturbance.
Holy shit what was that?!
I reached the end of my street, and was met by a growing crowd of curious spectators. Pushing my way to the front, I was met with glares and what looked like a small, hunk of metal.
The foreign object was a lustrous, roughly spherical, and appeared to have a rough surface.
When did I learn the word lustrous?
No one dared to go near it, but plenty seemed to be taking pictures to post on social media. However everyone was too distracted to notice the subtle shift in lighting. I shivered, rubbing my arms as suddenly the wind picked up. A random neighbor gasped, tugging my shoulder to obtain my attention, staring at the sky in something that was either awe or horror. Followed their glance, I pulled my gaze skyward.
Fuck.
It was like something you'd see in an apocalypse movie- hundreds, no, thousands of meteors raining down from the sky, in various shapes and sizes, each representing certain doom. I was too busy crying on the inside to notice other onlookers mentally breaking down, racked with sobs as people realized judgement day was upon them. Trembling, I took a shaky breath, and like any sane would, turned and ran.
