Lonely to Fear

Been a while since I wrote anything so expect this to be crappy. Also this is entirely AU. I say, Hiro here is 12~

Disclaimer: I don't own Exchange Student Zero, or anything related to it. This idea is just from a plot bunny who threatened to give my brain a LOT of ideas and I certainly can't have that happen.

Hiro was alone.

Alone in this bloody battlefield. Corpses were everywhere. The ground dyed red. Weapons littered amongst the dead, lifeless bodies.

(He'd seen the battle, gruesome and bloody. He initially wanted to join in the fray, but...real-life combat is very different from the practice battles he'd taken. The main difference was that:

In battle, he takes away a life.

He hadn't been brave to do it. His legs had felt like jelly and he always feels queasy at the sight of blood that come from wounds. And to be the one to inflict it...)

He was all by himself here. No one knew he was here. He tried to hold back his tears, tried to be strong. Like his father wants him to be.

(His father was-...no, is a legend. And as his son, he was expected to reach the same extent his father reached in his prime.

...

He wasn't sure he could.)

He shouldn't have secretly followed his father's army here. He shouldn't have snuck in one of their carriages, bringing a sword (which he may or may not have stolen from his father's armory) and an amulet that his mother had said was a lucky charm.

'I...can s-survive this.' He gripped the sword's hilt tighter, the rotten stench of the...c-corpses made him sick. The young prince swallowed the bile that threatened to come out. 'S-surely, my father or mother will notice my absence...'

The battlefield was no place for him, a child.

'Father...M-mother...'

Green eyes were glossed with tears.

'I...I c-can-!'

Leaning on the rubble, he cried himself to sleep.
