Morning

Weak shafts of sunlight danced on the ground in front of the sleeping she-cat as a small breeze blew over the long grass. Sparta slowly opened her eyes. Then, she attempted to do a strech for her aching limbs, and her haunches bumped the rock she was sleeping under. What's that doing here? Sparta thought. Then she remembered. She was stuck and lost in the meadow. Sparta crawled out from under the rock. The black cat brought her paw up to her muzzle and started licking it so she could wash herself. As she was doing so, Sparta frowned and thought. How is it that a whiff of Minka's scent came to me from another direction? she thought. It was very windy, so maybe that was the answer. Oh well. The black cat licked her chest, then looked up and around her. Tall golden grass, made from the rising sun shone. Where would she go? Hopefully her scent hasn't been fully washed away. She could follow it to where she had started running, and then find Rocky's scent. Her stomach rumbled. I need to eat first, Sparta thought. Maybe she could find a pheasant and chase it. Then she though better. She could get even more lost giving chase to the bird. Sparta decided not to. The black cat finished grooming her pelt and squirmed back under the rock. Hopefully something will pass by. The rock was casting shadows on her, so she wasn't that easy to spot. Sparta tucked her paws underneath her and waited.

Sparta fell asleep while she was under the rock. In the dream, warm air was around her. Faint light was coming in. She looked around her. Ivy grew on the rock walls and where she lay there was feathers and moss. Then, something was shaking and pawing her belly. Sparta looked down slowly. Three little bodies were parting her fur, looking to drink milk - none other than kits! The biggest was golden, its felt shining faintly. The one beside it was a beautiful black tabby, the smallest of the three. The last one- a fox-like one- with ginger fur, two black ears and forepaws, and the fluffiest white-tipped tail. They were suckling her, and all you could hear were their little cries. Sparta gasped, and the vision blurred and was fading like mist. Sparta woke, and instantly tried to stand up. Bonk!  Her head hit the surface of the rock. Very hard. The black cat the felt something trickle on her fur. A crimson drop fell onto the ground. Blood!  Sparta scooted from under the rock, but then stopped dead. Something was moving in front of her. Her gaze focusing, she spotted a small tuft of light brown fur move between the tall meadow grass. Sparta brought her paws back, and just in time, because a little field mouse emerged. The cat stood as still as the rock. The mouse was pawing the ground every few steps. Then it lifted its nose the sky, sniffing. Thinking the mouse had scented her, she prepared to jump out. Then Sparta listened for any noise that may have alerted the mouse than just a scent. Something was barging through the grass and it seemed big. Sparta squished under the rock, hoping to escape whatever was going to emerge soon. Then the mouse dashed under the rock as two shaped burst out. Sparta instinctly shot her paw out and grabbed the mouse. A surprised squeal came from the mound of brown fur, but the cat killed it quickly. Instead of eating the mouse, she tried to peek at what was outside from under the rock. She could only see legs-cat legs. Flattening her ears, she listened to the conversation the two cats.

-Great, we lost breakfast. Almost had it, a disappointed voice meowed.

-Maybe it's just hiding under the rock, a familiar voice meowed back encouragingly. Sparta knew that voice anywhere, but didn't come out. Instead, she squirmed farther into the corner of rock. The two cats crouched down. A brown tabby, with a white-tipped ear and a black-white she-cat, by the looks of it, Sparta thought. Wait!  Before she could answer, a voice meowed:

-Sparta? Is that really you?

Sparta's green eyes flashed with delight. She squirmed out, only to have a cat push her chin up, purring.

-Minka! Rocky! Sparta exclaimed. She touched noses with him.

-We were so worried after the rainstorm! Minka meowed. Where were you?

Sparta hesitated. How could she say it was partly Minka's fault? She picked what she was going to say, then explained the story.

-Wow! Minka breathed. What a story! Then the light faded and she filled it with sadness instead. ''I'm sorry. I...I shouldn't have run away like that.'' Minka looked at her paws. Sparta filled with sympathy for her friend.

-Its okay. Let's go home.

Sparta nudged her friend. Rocky took the lead, and they disappeared in the tall grass.
