The single flame flickered in the midst of the dark shadows. The room was full of darkness and the candle was the only source of light. Prince Calvian slowly paced across the room, holding the candle stick in one hand and his sword in the other. His sword was forged by the most skilled swordsman in the whole entire kingdom; with its handle made of pure gold. His sword was one of his most treasured possessions; another being his horse. His horse was named Achilles; after the Greek Legend and Prince Calvian rode it every day. The Prince opened the door and wandered throughout his castle. It was late at night and there was no one else awake, apart from his servant, Arthur. Arthur was the worst servant that The Prince could have asked for; and on top of that he was also the weakest. Unlike any other servant, Arthur had no skills or talent that would gain him a position elsewhere. Arthur stood outside The Princes chambers and awaited his master to show.
"What are you doing still awake, you fool!?" The Prince asked in an angry tone. By this, Arthur could tell that The Prince was not in one of his good moods.
Arthur replied by saying that he was waiting for more chores to do; which was a lie. Arthur hated The Prince and wished that he would respect him more. The Prince, after all, hated Arthur. There was nothing similar between them at all; apart from they both lived in the castle. The Prince ordered Arthur to scrub every floor in the palace; without any light. Then he took the candle stick and headed into his chambers. He put the candle stick on his bedside table and got into his bed. The Prince then relaxed his whole body and slowly drifted of to sleep, whilst Arthur was trying his hardest to scrub the floor.
The Next Day, Arthur was lying down on the floor beside The Princes chambers; after scrubbing all the floors. The Prince awoke and shouted for his manservant who was still asleep. He walked out of his chambers and looked down at his servant. He angrily shook him and yelled his name down his right ear. Arthur quickly woke up then noticed his masters evil glare. The prince asked him what he was doing in a harsh tone then waited for an answer. Unfortunately for Arthur, he couldn't think of a good answer to make his master forgive him.
"Why are the floors worse than last night? I thought I told you to clean them!" The Prince shouted harshly.
To Arthur's astonishment, the floors were indeed worse than last night, even though he had spent all night cleaning them. There was no mistaking the dirty footprints that had appeared in the night, or the clearly visible hand prints upon the stair banister. The Prince asked if the mess was Arthur's doing; to which he replied by saying no. There had been an intruder in the night, whilst Arthur was sleeping. The warning bell was sounded and the guards started to do a thorough search of the area that surrounded The Prince's chambers. The search went on for days, but nothing was ever found.
The news of the intruder spread quickly throughout the kingdom and reached The King quickly. The King was tall, bald and very strict. Some people often called him The Emperor because he made so many rules that they had to be obeyed. He was outraged at the fact that there had been an intruder and thought that someone had betrayed them. The King asked The Prince to tell him who was on guard that night, at which he said Arthur. The King's face just cringed even more as just like The Prince, he despised Arthur.
