In a small room strewn with countless notebooks and sheet music, illuminated by a glacial blue glow, stood a young boy and his grandmother. The boy was singing up and down scales to warm up his voice, as he did every day.
"Very well done, Gerard. Now, sing over the scale one more time." came a bright melodic voice. Gerard Way's grandmother Helena was also who continued to inspire him to continue practicing music. She was tall with pale, glowing skin. Her long, raven hair was streaked with the occasional strands of silvery grey, but shone radiantly when in the suns' light.

Unlike most other family living in the Romulus District of the Chemical Dimension, Gerard and his brother Mikey possessed incredible abilities that very few were capable of. They were able to channel a great deal of energy when needed, which could be extremely unpredictable. Those with such power were taken from their homes and drafted into combat school to become Elites. Elite soldiers in training were pushed nearly beyond human limits. Some were never seen again. But not the Way brothers, Helena had hidden them well to keep them safe.

Gerard continued with his lessons until the two blue-green suns began to set. He and his grandmother looked over towards the storage case he'd packed with enough clothes and food to last a couple of days.
"They'll find you here eventually. There is a strange old man wearing solar powered mecha armour who owns the teashop downtown. Tell him you know me and he'll lead you to your brother" Helena instructed him in a soothing tone that was ever so slightly traced with worry. Gerard had known this would be their last music lesson until he returned for a while now. But never did he think the day would come so soon.

"But what about you?" He asked sadly. She smiled in reply. It was the sort of smile that was as resolute and steadfast as a beautiful house about to be shredded by an oncoming tornado.
"I will be sure to send a holomessage to you daily." He gave her one last hug before they said their goodbyes, and young Gerard Way picked up his case and stepped into the first footprint of his quest.
