Y/N pov
I take another glance at myself in the bathroom mirror, making sure I didn't look like a complete mess before I go perform for the city of Los Angeles. In case you were wondering, Mason and I perform on the streets singing and playing instruments. Although we don't always perform on the streets, we do gigs and small venues. We live in a shoebox apartment and yes, we know it couldn't pay the bills and college tuition but it was something. It was something we both enjoy doing. I could always feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins.

It felt like ecstasy.

Once I finished checking myself out, I winked at myself before grabbing my guitar and going outside into the livingroom where Mason was. We have been friends since highschool and I have to admit, he's amazing. A great friend in fact.

"You ready bitch?" Mason questioned, standing up from the couch. Before I reply, I roll my eyes at him. He totally ruined the moment. I nodded at him and he smirks at me. "Let's slay."

As the words leave his lips, we leave.

...

"Hello everyone! My name is Y/N and this is Mason. We are called The Vanity 2! I'm going to share a very special song called "Don't" to you that I wrote about a week ago. I hope you like it." I gulped as Mason started to strum the guitar. I gripped the microphone tightly, putting it close to my lips. I noticed a dozen people started to crowd around with their phones out. "This is dedicated to a bad bitch name Katrina and my ex." An upbeat sound started to play.

They're gonna love it. No worries Y/N.

I started to sway to the beat that I made with my foot.

I met this girl late last year
She said "don't you worry if I disappear"
I told her I'm not really looking for another mistake
I called an old friend thinking that the trouble would wait

Everyone started to clap and dance along with me which only boosted my confidence. I could feel my smile starting to numb my cheeks. More people started to crowd around, putting more money in my guitar case. I like to make my stacks.

But then I jumped right in a week later, returned
I reckon she was only looking for a lover to burn

But I gave her my time for two or three nights
Then I put it on pause until the moment was right

I went away for months until our paths crossed again

She told me "I was never looking for a friend
Maybe you could swing by my room around ten
Baby, bring the lemon and a bottle of gin
We'll be in between the sheets till the late AM"
Baby, if you wanted me then should have just said, she's singing

I noticed a familiar face behind one of the people dancing but I shrug it off. It could be anyone. I stopped singing as Mason's verse came on.

Don't fuck with my love
That heart is so cold
All over my home
I don't wanna know that babe
Don't fuck with my love
I told her she knows
Take aim and reload
I don't wanna know that babe

And for a couple weeks I only wanna see her
We drink away the days with a takeaway pizza
Before a text message was the only way to reach her

Now she's staying at my place and loves the way I treat her.

Singing out Aretha, all over the track like a feature!

And never wants to sleep, I guess that I don't want to either
But me and her, we make money the same way
Four cities, two planes, the same day
And those shows have never been what it's about

But maybe we'll go together and just figure it out
I'd rather put on a film with you and sit on a couch
But we should get on a plane or we'll be missing it now
Wish I'd have written it down, the way that things played out

When she was kissing him, how I was confused about

Now she should figure it out, while I'm sat here singing

I felt beads of sweat drip down my forehead as I started to sing.

(Knock knock knock) on my hotel door
I don't even know if she knows what for
She was crying on my shoulder, I already told ya
Trust and respect is what we do this for
I never intended to be next
But you didn't need to take him to bed, that's all
And I never saw him as a threat
Until you disappeared with him to have sex, of course
It's not like we were both on tour
We were staying on the same fucking hotel floor
And I wasn't looking for a promise or commitment
But it was never just fun, and I thought you were different
This is not the way you realised what you wanted
It's a bit too much, too late if I'm honest
And all this time, God knows I'm singing

Don't fuck with my love
That heart is so cold
All over my home
I don't wanna know that babe
Don't fuck with my love
I told her she knows
Take aim and reload
I don't wanna know that babe

I sighed out in happiness as I finished the last verse. A blast of applause became audible as I finished. I wiped my sweat off with my arm and leant down to pick up my water bottle. Everyone started to toss money in the case and I noticed a few business cards slipping in there as well.

Jackpot.

Mason POV

As I was taking the money out of my guitar case, I got a good glance of a card. I picked it up and my eyes widened as I read it.

Simon Cowell
Call for Audition
605-475-6968

"Oh shit! Y/N! Dude! Come over here, Woman!"
I cheered. "Dude. Look at this card." I handed her the card and sat down on the concrete.

"Wait? What does this mean?" Y/N exclaimed, jumping up and down with excitement.

"It means that Simon Cowell thinks we're fucking good enough to audition! Bro, do you know what this could lead to?!" I gushed out.

"Bad bitches." Y/N grinned and I gave her a look. "Uh. Performing worldwide?"

"Let's get to the apartment and give him a call, we could get out of our problems if this goes well; bills, tuition, loads!"

Y/N nodded, "Hell yeah."

My phone pinged several times as it indicated tweets and posts about Y/N and I. Our performance of Don't was uploaded online by the crowd.

Nice.

"Alright, let's go." Y/N waved me over. Another two miles to walk back home. It was worth it though after this.
