Chapter 4: Daemyn

    After flirting with a brunette, who flirted right back, I glanced back to see what was taking Arietty so long. When I couldn’t find her in the take-out line, I glanced around the room, checking to see if she had just gotten the food. I spotted her at a table, gorging herself out. What?! That little brat! I told her to get some for me! I even gave her money!

    After excusing myself from the brunette, who was practically sitting on me, I stomped over to Arietty. “Where’s my food?” I demanded.

    She winked and held up an empty bag. “All gone!” she said cheerfully.

    I spluttered. “You said that you would buy me some food!” I snapped. “I even gave you some money for it!”

    “So? It didn’t seem like you were that hungry, because you were too busy flirting with her.” She gestured to the brunette.

    “So? She’s cute! And besides, what you used was my money, so you’ll have to pay me back!”

    She rolled her eyes. “Chill. I didn’t use all of the money. I’m not that cruel, unlike you, who threatened to eat Muffybutt.  Anyways, you said you would pay. Even if you went broke, you could still sell that stupid junk of a car you have. I would be able to buy breakfast and lunch with the amount of money you gave me. I wouldn’t be able to eat all of that unless I wanted to gain 10 pounds. Here.”

    I looked on in surprise as she dropped $20 on my waiting palm. I seriously thought she used all of that money. Maybe she wasn’t so bad after all.

“Ummm..sorry about that then...maybe you aren’t a freeloader after all.....,” I said guiltily. Hey! All the better reason to hit on her!  No selfish girls for a girlfriend!  I smiled widely, trying to make up for the accusation, “Want more?  You left plenty of money for me.”

She frowned, noticing my change in my mood.  “Uh oh.  You’re not getting revenge are you?”

“Oh, thanks for the advice,” I winked at her.

“Your welcome.  Now let me have the honor of ordering while you continue to flirt,” she said, holding out her hand, expectant, with a devilish grin on her face.

“Oh, no, you don’t.  Why don’t you stay here like a good little kid while I order for us, hm?”

“No, it’s okay, I’ll follow you, instead,” she decided hesitantly.

I sighed and lined up behind the other customers.  She followed right on my tail, making sure I didn’t do anything suspicious.  

“Next!”

Finally!  The line was loong, I thought as I walked up to the cashier with Arietty still on my tail.

“Can I have 4 Big Macs, and another 4 Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese. And.......” I squinted at the super small menu and finally decided, “2 large fries, and 2 McCafe Frappe Chocolate Chip.”

The cashier looked at us with wide, round eyes.  Even Arietty looked at me with surprise.  “What?”

“Ummm, are you sure you want that much, because that’s quite a lot, even if it’s just you and your girlfriend,”  she said.

“Oh, my girl eats a lot, believe me, she could eat all of it,” I said draping an arm around Arietty, “ That’s how much she could eat.  She’s so lucky she could lose all the weight just as fast as she eats.  She is like an example of the quote, Looks can be deceiving.”

The cashier’s eyes went even rounder with shock, as she looked at Arietty.  Meanwhile, Arietty’s eyes were round with anger and her face was tomato red.  She shot me a glare that said, You are sooo going to pay for this, you just wait, right before she huffed and left me to the booth she was sitting at earlier.  I cringed under her glare, but I briefly savored the taste of revenge.

“Yeah, so how much is it?”

The cashier stopped staring and typed in all the things I ordered.  She told me the price and I paid her.  Before I turned away, I said to her, “That was supposed to be the secret that she wanted me to keep, but I passed it along to you, so I’ll trust you to keep it safe, ok?”

She nodded and gave the order to her coworker.  As I walked to Arietty’s booth, I heard the cashier say to her co worker, “You’ll never believe what I’m going to say, but this guy came with his girlfriend..............................”   I smiled as I heard her pass along our ‘secret’.

We sat down. Arietty’s face was red with anger. “How could you?!” she snapped. “It’s one thing for me to steal your food, but it’s another thing to say how much I can eat!” Then, suddenly, she smiled. “Excellent,” she said. “I do eat a lot, don’t I? And yet I can still maintain my awesome figure.”

I stared at her. It was my turn to notice a change in her behavior. Uh oh. What was she planning now?

Then, suddenly, she stood up. “Yo, folks in here,” she hollered. The room became quiet. The cashier I had spoken to stared at us curiously.

“You’re not gonna believe this!” She pointed a finger at the cashier who took our order.

“I’m his girlfriend, right?” she asked. The cashier nodded. I felt nervous. I had no idea what she was getting at. Girls could be so confusing sometimes.

“Well, this son of a beep had the nerve to cheat on me! After I gave him the money to buy McDonalds! He asked me to buy it for him too, and he started flirting with a brunette while I was ordering!! And when I found out, I gave him a chance and let him go, after scolding him. And he had the nerve to go up the cashier and say that wasn’t the cute little girl I seemed to be! He’s the one who ate all the food I bought him! He’s the one who was basically cheating on me! I think he’s just asking for me to break up with him. Don’t you think?”

I spluttered. Half of that wasn’t even correct! I glared at her. “You’re lying,” I hissed. She shrugged good-naturedly. “You were lying about how much I ate and that I was your girlfriend. So I think I can lie too.”

Everyone in the restaurant began to mutter things like “She should totally dump him” and “He doesn’t deserve such a good and pretty girl like her”.

My vision started to grow red. The brunette I was flirting with earlier stared at me with disgust.

So I did the sensible thing. I grabbed Arietty’s hand and dragged her out of the restaurant.
