What's Become of Bella?

Carlisle was able to pull a few strings and the Cullen kids were in school within the next day. News spread fast about the handsome doctor with the model wife and five kids. The story was that he was just begining a career and wanted to live a normal life with his family in a small town. Forks had seemed like the perfect place.

It was Tuesday. Edward and his siblings pulled into the parking lot of the school, which hadn't changed that much except for the addition made to allow room for a bigger library and a few more class rooms. The Cullens had no trouble finding their way around. The curicular agenda was the same as they had remembered them, only the new teachers were a lot younger and, therefor, a lot less strict.

"Hey, you're the new kid right? Edward Cullen?" The question had sounded from a lean, tan girl sporting a black bob. She smiled at him shyly, a little uncomfortable now that she had his attention. Talking to a vampire took a lot of bravery, even if you didn't know your were talking to one.

"Yes, that's me. Can I help you?" He asked politely but somewhat bored. What was I thinking? She mentally asked herself, and Edward he to stifle a sigh, patiently waiting for her to move along.

"Well you looked a lot like another girl in our grade. I was just wondering if you guys were related?" she said, her confidence wavering.

"Really?" Another vampire? Edward wondered. How strange, he hadn't sensed any others. "Who is she?" He asked still not quite interested. He saw the mental image in the girls mind, a lean pale girl, with long dark locks and a stunning oval face, eyes the color of purest gold. He nearly choked. Impossible.

"Her names Isabell. Bella for short."

    A shocked hiss escaped Edwards mouth, too low for the girl to hear, but her body responded to his change of mood and she fidgeted nervously.

Bella? BELLA?! The mental imagine the small girl had provided was seared into his brain and he analyzed it a million times. He fought the urge to flee from the room to see with his own eyes. It just can't be. Bella, a VAMPIRE? Here in Forks?! It's too good to be true, but it made no sense in his head. How? How had this happened? I have to tell Carlisle. I -I -I

Edward notes the girl becoming more unnerved at his prolonged silence. He quickly recovered.

"Oh, no. No relation. My family isn't from around here." He assured the girl quickly.

"Oh, well I was just wondering." What an odd kid... She walked away, somewhat dazed, not even realizing she had just given him very important information. The bell rang then and Edward waited in the hall by the cafeteria for his siblings. It wasn't a long wait.

" There's something you guys need to know." Edward said when all of them were there. His siblings sensed his excited attitude, a feeling not used to discribe Edward since he lost Bella.

"What is it?" Alice asked, having not foreseen anything. That was odd. Alice's powers, unlike his, had worked on Bella in the past. But Alice has never seen Bella after they had left forks all those years ago, no matter how hard she had tried.

Edward quickly recalled the conversation to his family in tone so low even they had to lean in to hear.

"Bella! A vampire? FINELY!" Emmette muttered.

How is this possible? "How?" She said allowed. Alice tried desperately to visualize any and all futures that contained Bella. Nothing came to sight. Edward could not understand this but was too lost in emotions to rationalize it.
"I haven't sensed another vampire since we moved back, not even a whiff." Emmett notes, perplexed. "Are you sure?"
"I know what I saw." Edward said, exasperated. He knew his brother was making sense but he was too desperate to see for himself.
Jasper and Rosalie remained quiet. That was normal for Jasper. Rosalie, not so much. But Edward didn't care. He gripped the handles of the door. A little too tight, the metal dented slightly so he relaxed his grip and tried again. Then with an unnessassary breath, he pushed the door open.

For the first time, the sweet smell of vampire hit their noses instantly.
