It only took a second for Edward to seek out the source of the smell. If he had a beating heart, it would have stopped when he saw the face of the beautiful, pale, brown haired girl sitting at a table with four others. She froze, her head whipping up as she caught his sent. Their eyes met and a hiss escaped her perfect lips. The four other vampires sitting with her whipped around also to glare at them with their rich golden eyes. Everyone else in the cafeteria was oblivious to the scene.
Bella, slowly so as not to attracted attention to herself, got up and made her way towards him. Her possee followed suite. Each step seemed painfully slow to Edward and he wanted to rush to her, to pull her into his tight embrace, to hold her, to kiss-
"What are you doing here?" Bella hissed in a high, flowing voice of an angel. The doors of the cafeteria shut behind her with a metallic thud.
"Bella. Oh Bella, I've-" Edward started but she cut him off.
"I asked what you are doing here. This is our territory. You had no right to come back." Her voice betrayed a hint of something Edward couldn't quite understand.
"Bella how did this happen to you?" Alice chimed.
"What does it matter to yous? This is my territory." Bella growled. Her group formed around her, growling slightly to echo her. Edward couldn't understand what was happening.
"Bella what's wrong? Why-" Just then a boy walked out. He took one long look at the hostile scene in front of him, realized he'd walked in on something, and scurred back into the caffeteria. Edward sighed.
"He's going to tell everyone there's a fight." Edward suddenly realized he hadn't heard any of the other vampires thoughts, which was shocking. He had expected Bella's mental silence. But he was now perplexed has he tried to probe the space in front of him. He heard nothing besides the sea of mental voices just past the mental doors. Word was quickly spreading.
"I'll stop by your house tonight to finish this." Bella said. "I've made this area my home, I won't have you coming back and ruining it." She practically spit the words, each one cutting deep into Edward . Then she turned on her heels, grinding the floor with a sharp twist, and gracefully walked down the hall, her followers close behind. The way they moved somehow reminded Edward of the royal vampire family, the Voltori. The thought worried him slightly.
Jasper finally spoke up. "I think we should go see Carlisle. There's only one class left, I'm sure no one will miss us."
Edward only nodded, following his family outside.
