A/N: I'm excited for you guys to read this chapter :)
My hand clenched onto Lauren's hand as we rushed down the sidewalk, heading for the direction of our house.
"How much longer?" Emmie asked, exhaustion clear as she huffed out her words. She was beginning to fall behind as we walked, so I picked her up into my arms so we could go faster, Caiden already being held by Lauren.
It wasn't for a few more minutes until we came across a road block. Police cars were parked around the big, orange road blocks, their lights flashing as policeman stood guard.
"Excuse me sir, but you can't pass through here," one of the policeman said as we approached him.
"Why not?" I asked.
"I am not authorized to give you that information," he replied, making eye contact with me as he spoke.
I shifted from foot to foot for a moment, giving the man a somewhat pleading look. "Please...come on, our car was stolen, and I'm just trying to get my family home safely. The only way to get back to our house is to pass through this road that you are blocking."
"I'm sorry sir, but you need to leave." His voice was monotone, showing almost no emotion or concern. When I didn't move, his hand went down to the handle of his gun, making me suck in a quiet breath, gently pushing Lauren behind me. "Now."
Not wanting to cause any trouble, I let out an angry sigh and turn around to start walking.
"Dad, where are we gonna go?" Emmie asked worriedly, and tightened her arms around my neck. "I want to go home."
"I know, Em," I answered, reaching back for Lauren to take my hand my hand once again, which she quickly did. "I'll find a place for us to stay."

"Come on," I said quietly, rushing Lauren, Emmie and Caiden into a bus station single person bathroom, locking the door as soon as I had stepped in.
I had tried everything to find a place to stay, but nothing worked out well. My first thought was to find a hotel to stay in, but once we had entered the lobby, I realized that in all the chaos, I had left my wallet in the pizza restaurant.
Every other idea I had needed some amount of money, which we didn't have. So the closest place I found was the bus station bathroom. At least we could lock the door.
It didn't take long for Lauren, Emmie, and CJ to all fall asleep on the ground. Lauren held Caiden in her arms with her back leaning against the tile wall. I however was still awake, Emmie sleeping on my lap.
No matter how hard I tried to keep them in, the tears slowly started to form in my eyes, and as soon as I blinked, the first one fell down my face. I didn't want to wake up anyone, mostly not wanting my family to see that I was scared, so I silently cried.
My heart practically skipped a beat when someone tried to open the door which resulted in them jiggling the door handle. Fear filled me and I slowly slid my foot over to the door, pressing it against door so that if they managed to open it, they would have a hard time getting in. I gently nuzzled my face into Emmie's hair and held her closer to me.
My worst fear in that moment was the person on the other side of the door knowing we were in the bathroom.
After a few minutes, the person had given up and left, making me relax a bit.
I didn't even know who I was talking to or why I spoke in that moment, but the only thing I could whisper was, "Please, just please, don't let anything happen to them." That was all I could say as my eyes glanced at my family.
