The Desert City.

Earth isn't what it once was. All grownups have been killed of a virus and the only ones left are young adults, teenagers and children. The city (which is New York City) they live in is more like a ghost town than the busy city they once knew. It almost seems as if time is frozen. All buildings are empty and quiet. Doors are wide open, as if someone just left it that way. The cars are the same, standing in all kind of different places. Driveways. Outside of workplaces. In the middle of the highway. The doors are open and the keys are left in the ignitions, waiting for someone, anyone to take them away from there.

It seems as if the city is abandoned. But that's wrong. The young part of the population is still alive. They're still in the city but they keep away from the streets. They stay inside, in the safety. You see, the young adults, teenagers and children are divided into different gangs. The gangs are pretty much random. If you stumble across one of them and they accept you, you're one of them. The people in the gangs can be anyone. People you went to school with, lived next door to, your ex, ex best friend, cousin, boyfriend/girlfriend etcetera can be in one of the other gangs while one of your worst enemies can be in the same gang as you're in. Those things don't matter anymore. Everything that matters now is survival.

You can try to contact another gang. You can try to make a deal about something that will be good for one or both of you. It's a huge risk, though. The old rules and laws don't exist anymore. So, you can be fooled and lead into a trap and end up as someone's prisoner. This is because each gang has a territory, an area that's theirs. If someone else comes into your territory and they get caught, you're allowed to do whatever you want with them. You can take this opportunity to find out more about the gang your prisoner belongs to. If your prisoner is someone important, you can kill them. ((Let's not actually kill anyone. But you can threaten to kill them to make them talk. You can also spread rumors that the person is dead even though they're not.))

The city is running out of food and water. This forces the gangs to leave their territory and safety and go out in the city to find food and water. Every single day. Since they're not alone in the city, they don't know which stores that still hold food and other things they could be in need of. They're also forced to go further away from their safety since most of the stores have already been emptied.

You might wonder what happens if two gangs cross paths. Well. Let me just put it like this, it never ends well. It happens that one gang comes home with one or two members less than when they left. The gangs are constantly fighting as they're trying to get the control over the city. Being the strongest and biggest gang doesn't only give the gang control over the whole city, it also gives them control over everything that's inside. They can have everything they want. Food. Water. Batteries. Cars. Fuel. You name it. The gang has nothing to fear. They can go down the street without having to be paranoid or prepared for something unexpected to happen.

So, to the gangs. You don't have to be in a gang, you can be on your own and not belong to a gang. If you're on your own, you start by doing whatever. You can start by waking up, already being awake or looking for food. Be creative.

If you belong to a gang, you and your gang start by choosing the ones that have to leave to get food. The rest of the gang can start by doing whatever. Chilling in the territory, leaving to discover the area or leaving the gang. As I said before, be creative.

Create as much drama as you want.

One last thing. For the moment being, there's no gang ruling the city so feel free to do something about that if you feel like it.
