"Quentin, your refrigerator is running!", sheq and mads and I giggle into the large phone hanging on wall. "Hey guys, I know it's..." Mads quickly ends the call as my little sister ideana waddles into the room, even though she is only half the height of the older girls, she acts like their mother. " who was on the phone with you?" She asks. Sheq grabs her raincoat, "no one, we were just about to head outside and play I the mud"
"Yeah" mads says following suite, "would you like to join us?"
"No" ideana says stubbornly, "I cannot get my new dress wet"
She smooths out the nonexistent wrinkles of her red plaid dress. We watch her intently, hoping she will leave the room, so we will not have to go outside. But, to our dismay, she plops down on a stool and knitting her eyebrows, examines a small syrup stain from earlier in the morn. I open the double locked doors that lead to our big backyard. Mads and Sheq exchange glances, I know it is not their first choice to be sitting outside in the cold weather. I suggest that we could travel down to the tree house and play with Rossir the rabbit. They nod their heads in unison. Sheq starts running towards the fort/ tree house, and Mads and I chase after her.
"Last one up the ladder is a rotten egg". Mads shouts, passing sheq by a step. I sigh. Mads and Sheq both have strong soccer legs. I only swim, sometimes.
When I finally reach the top of the tree house, mads and sheq are staring wide eyed at rossir's former cage. I follow their gaze. In rossir's place stands a Ghost-like creature. It wiggles its tail similar to a dog. "Ohh, my goooohd" Mads shrieks. Sheq looks like she is paralyzed, and I run up to the furry creature. I can see my own reflection in the creatures bared teeth. But I look unfamiliar, like a shadow, soft gray eyes and pale lips. A part of my soul is taken away at this very moment.
