I sneaked quietly into the room through the sliding glass door from the balcony, creeping through the night. The heavy, long, deep breathing of my target informed me that he was in a trance of deep sleep. I gripped tightly to the silver dagger in my hand. It was a situation of many that I had grown long accustomed to. Death was only another obstacle in my daily life. People live, people die. My job just happened to the latter. Some would call me heartless, but it didn't bother me much. Ever since I had gotten caught up with the Government, I wasn't given much of a choice except to become their errand boy.
"Halfway there..." I thought to myself, contemplating every way to execute the man sleeping soundly in the bed only a few feet before me. I always had a game plan set in mind, observing every exit and creating back up plans in case I accidentally botched a mission. Although, I usually made sure not to make any rookie mistakes, knowing it's not only my life on the line, but someone who I hold extremely dear to me as well. I was careful not to step on anything that would make noise, not wanting to alarm the highly trained and paid security guards just outside of the door. It was difficult to see in the middle of the dark room as the only light source came from the glass balcony door I had tiptoed into.
In attempt to concentrate and catch my bearings of the surroundings, I idiotically tripped on the shoes of my prey. Cursing myself, I tried to quickly resolve my new predicament by stepping lightly in my stumble. Unable to regain my balance, I fell to my knees with my hand coincidentally landing perfectly over my target's gaping mouth. A cold sweat began to form on my skin as my heart picked up it's pace ever so slightly. I swiftly lifted myself up, losing necessary time in my stealth. The man's eyes shot open. He quickly looked at me with confusion and fear. Once his eyes got a glimpse of the shimmering dagger, his pupils grew wider and his body became stiff. Feeling the newfound pressure, I smoothly slit his throat with the dagger without another moment's hesitation. Killing was completely normal to me and I hated that fact about myself. Cautiously, I stepped back to cease from any of his blood to spill on me. However, I made one grave mistake in that move. I hadn't bothered to smother him before letting him bleed out. Despite the fact that he was going to die inevitably, he immediately cried out for the men waiting beyond the giant locked door in between gurgles as he choked on his own blood.
The noise arouse just outside of the door and was filled with a combination of gasps and angry shouting. Taking that as my cue to leave, I ran smoothly to the balcony door, still gripping the now bloodied dagger. Reaching for my fully equipped belt loop, I pulled out a stun grenade and yanked out the pin. In only a few moments, the security guards had busted down the doors. Gun shots rang out in the room as they blindly tried to hit me without having yet to come in the room. With each shot, however, they missed. The shooting quickly ended as they entered past the door. I quickly chucked the stun grenade at them, only leaving a mere couple of seconds before it went off. I was close enough to even falter my own hearing, but it wasn't enough to catch me off guard. I looked over my shoulder to see the men groaning, attempting to regain their equilibrium.
Entering the outdoors again on the balcony, I pushed myself up on the rails. I had plan A becoming executed for my ultimate success in escaping. Hurriedly, I glanced down to see the balcony below was just as I predicted for my escape route. I glanced over my shoulder one last time, watching the half abled men as they slowly realized what I was going to do. Once I crouched on the rail, the men stumbled as they began running out of the hotel room.
With a push of my feet and a jumping motion, I was in the air. I smiled as I felt free, almost like a bird flying through the cold night. The balcony below me quickly came closer into sight. My arms wrapped around the rails and my body braced for impact as it harshly hit against the cement balcony. I threw the dagger out from my hand onto the balcony and it made a "clinging" sound as it hit the cement. Swinging my body for some momentum, I picked up my right foot and set it into a firm position. I pushed myself up with the upper body strength I spent many days training to gain and rolled out on top of the cemented balcony. Taking a second to catch my breath, I quickly grabbed the dagger once more and inserted it into my belt. "I have to get out of here before the guards get down to my floor." I thought as I picked myself up off the ground.
