"Boys? Wake up!" An urgent voice says. I rub my eyes, sitting up slowly. There's a policewoman standing in the doorway. I look at my digital alarm clock. It's three am.
"What's going on?" Michael's voice groans from the other side of the room.
"There's been a murder. In the school. We need you to be up and alert,"
"Just us?" Calum asks, sounding worried.
"No, we're waking everyone up,"
"W-who's been murdered?" I ask shakily. All our eyes fall upon an empty bed in the room.
Ashton's bed.
"Sorry... Uh, excuse me, ma'am," A familiar voice coughs, and a tall figure squeezes past the police woman into the room.
Thank God.
"Ashton! Fucking hell, I thought you died!" Michael exclaimed, breathing heavily.
"Sorry. I went to the bathroom. Who's been murdered?" He asks, sitting down.
We look at the door, but the policewoman has hurried off to the next room.
"I don't know. I'm just hoping it's not someone we knew well," I say. I'm praying that it's not Carmen.
We can hear noises from the two rooms on either side of ours. The whole school is probably awake by now, all as worried as we are.
Is this woman saying there's a murder - in Charlton Institution?
"I... I'll be right back. Bathroom," I say hurriedly, slipping out the room. I look both ways of the corridor, making sure there's no teachers or police. As it's clear, I run down the hall to Carmen's room. I tap on the door, silently pleading.
Emily opens it. She doesn't look upset.
"Hi, Luke. Alright?"
"Hey. Do you know who got murdered?"
"No. They won't tell us. It was none of us though,"
She's safe. She's alive.
"Can I speak to Carmen?" I ask. Carmen appears behind Emily. She's standing in a loose black tank top, mini grey shorts and her large flannel. I struggle to keep my eyes on her face, not her body.
She quietly closes the door and into the corridor with me. I pull her into a hug.
"I was scared it was you who got killed,"
"Me?" She scoffs. "It would take more than one murderer to kill me,"
"That's true,"
"Well, we'd better get back in our rooms before someone catches us," Carmen says. She kisses me gently and then strolls back into her room. I do the same.
"Heard anything else about it?" Calum asked. I shake my head, flopping down. We hear gently snoring from Michael's bed.
"That's the second time already," Grumbles Ashton, shaking him hard.
"What?"
"You need to stay awake,"
"But if you're all awake why do I have to be awake?" Michael whines.
"Because you just do," Ashton snaps.
I lean against my pillow, sitting up. I unlock my phone and go onto Carmen's contact.
Me: promise you have your door locked. If there really is a murderer in the school
Carmen: aw, going all protective;)
Me: I care about you ok
Carmen: haha, I know you do
Me: seriously.
Carmen: stop being so worried. I won't die, I promise
Me: promise?
