Thin Air

The next day she vanished.
Gone.
This isn't the end of the story, it was only momentarily Kennedy disappeared.
I remember.
Sprinting over to her house to just to see her, knocking on the door..
The toddler who opened the window during the famed tree leap of faith answered.
His hair was brown, chocolate eyes gazing up at me with a gleam of mischief.
"Hi, is Kennedy home?"
Instead of replying he grabbed my hand and lead me up the stairs.
I heard him speak faintly when we reached her door.
"This is her bedroom. She said to take you here. I don't know where she is, no I don't!"
He laughed and ran to his room as hyper toddlers do.
I grasped the door handle and swung it open.
Her walls and ceiling were plastered with band posters. The bed itself was unmade, random items of clothing scattered around the room like the aftermath of a bombshell.
I spotted her headphones, carefully hung over the rucksack in my direct eye view.
Something was wrong- she'd never leave without them.
I reached into the bag and my palm found paper.
I raised the letter into the light and examined it.

Winters,
First I should congratulate you on stalking me all the way to my bedroom; what an achievement right? Not to mention meeting the family, or a small annoying fraction of the family that is. His name is Daniel by the way.
I'm gone, so to speak. Had some loose ends to tie up and needed to leave town.
I'm not dead, basically.
Well not while I'm writing this at least.
I'll be back soon.
Yours,
Kennedy

The first emotion was anger. How often will she just leave? I assumed her parents would be around to take care of Daniel but.. I just wanted her to myself.
She's so unpredictable, as quick and gone as the wind and her second name.
I folded the letter and stuffed it in my pocket.
The room still smelled faintly like perfume and her shampoo.
Vanished into thin air.
She'll be back soon.
Right?
