"Why are we here again?" I ask for the upteenth time.

Duncan rolls his eyes, "For the last time, we need to get some emeralds for experiments."

"Which experiments this time?"

We were walking towards the nearest village. Duncan insisted on walking, just in case we find something along the way, aparentally he's looking for new rocks or whatever.

"I want to see if the flux taints jewels or rocks."

"But it clearly does! Your castle was completely tainted, remember?" I exclaim, impatiently.

"Yes, but, emeralds are different, I've found traces of chromium and vanadium in the villagers DNA, so it could be that..." blah blah blah.

And there he goes again on another science rant. God, he's so annoying!

I like to look at Duncan when he rants like this. None of what he's saying really matters but just the fact that he seems so passionate about what he's saying and believing, it's really fascinating.

"And so you...wait, Kim? Kim? Are you even listening to me?" He waves a gloved hand in front of my face.

"Um, yeah, yeah. You were saying that..."

"AAHHHHHHHH!!!"

We both stop.

"What was that?" He asks.

"MOMMY? WHAT IS THAT?"

We turn to see that one of the little villager children was screaming and pointing in our direction.

More importantly-

He's pointing at me.

It's funny because for a minute I was so confused. Like, 'What? What? Do I have something on my face?'

But then it occured to me.

I had purple moving swirls going up my arm and my eye is completely covered in purple.

The child started to run away screaming that there was a monster in the village.

Great.

The mother looked at me accusingly and ran off to look for her child, who was still screaming and shouting about a 'purple octopus monster', and before long there was a crowd gathering around us.

"BURN IT WITH FIRE! BURN THE WITCH! BURN THE OCTOPUS!"

"BURN THE MONSTER!"

Duncan walked forward to try and calm the crowd but it was no use.

"Duncan, let's just go."

"What? Hey Kim, wait!"

I flew away.

...

Monster, huh? I guess I'm not the only one who see's that, ey?

You were never the only one.

Oh, darling, you're only upset because you love him!

I shouldn't love him. I'm just putting him in danger.

You're just putting him in danger. Love is dangerous.

I want him to love me back!

But he never will...What a tragedy!

I shoudn't care.

Staying with him will only put him in danger.

Staying with him will hurt him.

You should leave him, he's too good for you.

But I love him.

You're a sick being, you're not even human now, are you? You can feel it too can't you? Your body, your senses, your sanity is tainted! You sicken most people, children run from you when they see you! How will he ever love you the way you love him?

How can he ever love me the way I love him?

It's impossible.

No one loves me.

Mother loves you. sweetie! Mother's always here for you, you should trust me more.

I should trust you more. Mother will never hurt me.

No one will ever hurt you again, you're safe now.

I'm safe now....
