I was dialing my best friend Maddie's phone number. Ring. Ring. Suddenly, I heard, "Maribelle? Why on earth are you calling me at eight o' clock in the morning? You know I don't get up before ten during the summer."
"Maddie!" I exclaimed. "Are you ready yet? We're leaving in an hour."
"Mare, I just got up. But I need to ask you a question. Is it alright if I, well, bring some people?" Maddie asked.
"How many?" I replied suspiciously.
"Is that a yes? Okay, see you in an hour." Click.
Uh. Maddie probably brought everyone she knew with her. I didn't have time to think about that. I had to get ready. What was I getting ready for, you ask? Well, it was a long story. My filthy rich Aunt Evelyn (she was a business woman) had this sweet beach house in Malibu. She was going to Hawaii for the entire summer. She said I'm her favorite niece (and she told me not to tell anybody), so she gave me her beach mansion for the summer. As I listened to B.O.B's "So Good," my parents called from the stairs. "Maribelle!" my dad yelled. "We need to talk to you!"
"You rang?" I said, walking into the kitchen.
"Maribelle? Sit down," my mom replied.
I slowly lowered myself into a chair at our kitchen table. "Marebear, we know you're responsible, but we just need to issue a few rules about living at the beach house," my dad said, "First, do not stay out after ten P.M. We don't want you coming back sleep-deprived. Rule Two: no wild parties. Aunt Evelyn shouldn't come back to a trashed house. Our last rule is don't do anything irresponsible. A summer of pure freedom can trigger the temptation to act wild."
"Uh, sure, okay," I replied uncertainly.
"Good," my mother said, "Now, you have thirty minutes left with us. What do you want to do?"
"Pack," I stated quickly. I needed a break from my parents. Too. Many. Rules.
"Oh...okay. I guess that's fine," my dad replied glumly.
I ran upstairs to try to close my overstuffed suitcase. Well, one of my five overstuffed suitcases. Hey, I was going away for an entire summer. After finally closing my suitcase, I went to watch T.V. I felt really bad, but I was in rule overload.
A/N: Yay! What do you think? ~Liv
