Prologue

Dear Reader,

What you are holding right now is a super-important document. These events are proof of how messed up my society is. Children the age of ten are sent away to be trained. Of course, they have to be "chosen children." These are the strong kids or kids of good parents. What are they being trained for? They're being trained to be "Protectors of Metropolis." Doesn't it sound so cool, being chosen to be a protector? It's not, I swear. You're torn away from your family forever. It's like prison. I used to pass by the training facility on my way to school. I've seen the kids brainwashed into believing that they're doing something good. It's depressing. Of course, there are chosens, as we call them, who don't want to be trained. I'm one of them. All I can say now is just don't be a chosen.
