CHAPTER 9
DAHLIA'S POV
I quickly changed into sweatpants and a workout tank top. I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I looked just like I did when I had softball workouts, when my parents used to run me to death.
My parents...
I teared up quickly. I can't believe I forgot about them... I guess I just got so caught up in this, everything else just flew out of my head. I need to contact them, but I doubt I can ask Casey without dodging something flying towards me. I'll just ask when he cools down, after my training...
A knock on the door startled me out of my thoughts.
"Come in!" I called out, using my fingers to rake my hair into a ponytail. I heard loud footsteps behind me.
"You ready, Dahlia?" Hyde asked. I nodded and turned around. Hyde smiled at me encouragingly, motioning for me to follow him.
"You know that I know perfectly well where the training room is, right?" I said. Hyde turned his head to glare at me.
"Well, you'd get lost trying to find your way out of a paper bag." He snorted.
"I would not!"
"Would too."
"Would not."
"Would you two please shut up?" Ash groaned, coming up behind us. I huffed.
"Tell him I wouldn't get lost trying to find my way out of a paper bag!" I said, pointing at the wolf boy. Ash stayed quiet.
"Fine then! I love how no one will stick up for- oof!" I let out a groan as a door swung out and smacked me in the face. I stumbled backwards into Ash, who steadied me. I looked up to see a wide-eyed Casey, but he had a smirk on his face. I wanted to reach up with the hand that wasn't holding my nose, and slap that stupid smirk off his face.
"Good job, Lia. You should really watch you're going." Casey said breezily. I pulled away from Ash, extremely pissed. And soon enough, the boys boy were they going at it.
Hyde currently had Casey pinned down on the floor, his eyes flashing menacingly. Casey was clawing at Hyde's chest with one hand and using his strength to push him off with the other. It seemed pretty evenly matched...
"Yo, stop having a bromance and come help Dahlia!" Ash yelled from the doorway. The two boys stood up, panting. Hyde looked up at me and grinned.
"I beat his ass." He boasted. Casey snorted, rolling his eyes.
"Yeah right, mutt. Did you see me knocked out?" He challenged.
"Well, you did seem pretty tired- oof!" Casey football tackled him against the wall, shaking the weapons on the wall. I sighed.
"Would you two stop?!" I said, aggravated. Casey slowly nodded and dropped Hyde. I walked over and helped the werewolf boy up. Casey glared at us. What did I do? All I did was help him up...
Hyde glared at Casey once more then turned to me.
"Ready?" I nodded. He then turned and dragged a dummy out, which looked oddly like a wolf man...
"Now, right now, I just want to see what you're capable of. Punch as hard as you can in this dummy's chest." He gestured to it. Casey and Ash walked out of the door, Casey throwing one last glance behind him. I took a deep breath, balled up my hand, and swung. I rocked the dummy slightly, but other than that, nothing.
Hyde sighed. "This is going to be tougher than I thought." He muttered. He then looked at me.
"Keep punching. Fifty punches. NOW." My eyes widened as I started. This is gonna hurt...
"Left, right, left, right, left right, don't get tired now Carson!" Hyde's voice barked. The rhythm of the punches against the fake man rang in my head. 21, 22, 23...
By 50 I was panting, wiping glistening sweat off my forehead with the back of my hand.
"What now?" I asked. Hyde started advancing towards me and grinned.
"Now let's see how you can fight off a predator." He cackled. My eyes widened.
"B-but, all I did were some punches-" He jumped on me, pushing me to the ground. I let out a yelp as he easily pinned my hands above me, straddling me.
"NOT FAIR!" I yelled in his face. Hyde chuckled and let go of my hands, still sitting on me.
"Sorry. But you need to be ready for anything. Let's try this again." He pushed himself off of me and stood in a fighter's position. I just stood there awkwardly.
"Ready?" He asked. I nodded. "Okay, one, two..." He lunged at me "THREE!"
I sidestepped him but he easily turned and grasped my left arm in a tight grip.
"Rule number one, never turn your back on your opponent." He breathed. I pursed my lips and threw my leg back, connecting with his thigh. Hyde let out a gasp of surprise but just twisted my arm behind me tighter as I tried to turn.
"Nice move, but not fast enough." I could literally HEAR the smirk in his voice. I growled.
"Shut up you stupid wolf boy!" I yelled, twisting my arm over my head so I was now facing him. I threw a punch with my right hand to his chest, but to no avail. He just grabbed my tiny wrist and twisted it around to my other side, which hurt like hell.
"C'mon princess. You can do better." Hyde laughed, giving me a toothy grin. I lifted my knee up and dug it into his side; it surprised him for a split second and I managed to wiggle my one hand out of his grasp, throwing another punch his way. This time he was ready, however. He swept his leg behind my leg, making me fall to the ground.
"Ow!" I screamed, as I started struggling against the strong boy. He was now hunched over my wiggling body, trying to pin my arms and legs down, but I was moving too much.
"Stop moving, damnit!" he growled.
CASEY'S POV
That racket upstairs is so annoying. If that flea infested mutt hurts her in any way...
"Yo, Case! Get a grip Mr. Emo." Ash's snappish voice brought me back to reality. I looked at her blankly.
"Did you forget our problem at hand? As in, Jeremy?" Lilly snorted. I rolled my eyes. Of course I didn't.
"Uh guys? There's a problem..." McKaylia's usually quiet voice rang throughout the library. The three of us looked up at her, eyes questioning. She quickly rushed over to the worn out table I currently had my feet resting on, and laid a piece of crumpled up paper on it.
"What is this?" I asked, getting up to get a better look. On it were several different names, every one sounding prestigious.
"Most of them are crossed out..." Lilly muttered. And indeed they were. Names such as Bostelieres, Pendleton, and James were crossed out.
"Don't those names sound familiar?" I said. McKaylia rolled her eyes. Obviously she's quite impatient with whatever this is.
"These are all the vampire families, or clans, that have been hunted, and terminated." I froze.
"Vampire hunters." We said simultaneously.
"And look at this..." Ash pointed to a name that was circled.
Davis.
My brother and I were next.
