*lucas's pov*
Running always clears my head. There's something about the rhythm between my feet and the basketball hitting the pavement again and again that never fails to calm me. This is the only time in the day that I'm alone with my thoughts.
I keep going on my way home until I look up to see a car flying by. A car that I recognize. It's Peyton Sawyer's car. The Comet. I wonder where she's going this late, I mean it's only like nine but we have school tomorrow. I pull out one of my ear buds and hear a song that I know blaring from the car's speakers.
I can't help but smile a little. Maybe I'll talk to Peyton tomorrow, but probably not. It'll go just like last time.

I had it all planned out, I'd walk right up to Peyton and tell her everything that's been on my mind. I'd tell her that I think that she's great, the total package. She's gorgeous and smart. We have the same taste in music and I saw her walking the hall with my favorite book during freshman year. I'd let her know that she can find someone that actually gets her, all of her. Someone better than that jerk, Nathan.
It sounded like the perfect plan, until I was standing in front of her between classes stuttering and stumbling over my words.
"I-uh. I just really, uh think th-that you're."
"I'm what?" she put her hand on her hip impatiently.
"You're really-um not ugly."
"Okay thanks. Are you done? Cause I've really gotta be going." She slung her bag over her shoulder and crossed her arms.
"Yeah, okay. Well bye then." She walked off without saying good bye and met up with her best friend and whispered something to her which apparently was really funny because they both hooted with laughter.

Needless to say, Haley thought it was hilarious.
I make the definitely wise decision to not talk to Peyton tomorrow at school.
I keep running and before I know it, I'm walking into the front door of my house.
"Lucas? Is that you honey?" My mom shouted from the kitchen.
"No it's the mailman," I laugh and walk into the kitchen and sit down at the table.
"Shut up Luke," she chuckles, "Are you hungry? I just finished making dinner. It was a late night at the cafe."
I nod, "Starving."
"You poor thing," she laughs and hands me a plate and sits down to have dinner.
"So how was school today?"
I shrug, "Same as always."
Dinner goes on the same as it always does. I help mom with the dishes after and head to bed. Sleep comes before too long and before I know it I'm dreaming of Peyton again..
