They always thought about her. They missed her so much. She would have especially loved today. The ocean was calm, there was a light breeze, and the sunset was beautiful. Living on the shores of Hawaii, the weather was usually like this. But tonight was very pretty. Jared, Sam, and Teddy were enjoying the sunset by having a picnic on the beach.

Their father obviously wasn't there with them to enjoy this beautiful night. Ever since their mother died, their father had never been the same. He was always in his own little world. He was like a turtle, afraid to peek his head out of his shell to see the world. Most of the time he would come home late at night from the nearest downtown bar, drowning his sorrow in drink after drink. He wasn't always home during the day either. He had a job as a delivery man for a big hardware store company. But he would enjoy some of the weekends with his sons. One of their favorite activities was to go boating on the ocean. It was their only father son bonding time.

Other than not having a mother, the boys thoroughly enjoyed their lives. Jared was the oldest out of the three. He was 17 years old, but usually tended to act older than his age. Sam was the second oldest. He was 12 years old and was the genius of the family. He would often spend his free time in the library or watching the history channel to gain more information on the world. Teddy was the youngest. He was 7 years old and was (as his family called him) "a big sweetheart". He was always cheerful and upbeat. Which was one of the things that the family needed the most after the death of their mother. None of the boys went to school. Their father didn't really see the point of an education for his boys. Nor could he afford to send his boys to school. They enjoyed life outside of school by playing games, watching movies, boating, and walking on the beach with their free time. None of them had many friends. They all preferred to stick together. Which was okay with them.

Their lives were, for the most part, pretty good. They liked things like they were. (Of course they wished their mother was still living but they would be alright with just a father too.)

But everyone's life was about to change. And no one would be prepared.
